All Hallows' Eve, All Saints Day and Halloween
A tricky connection for some families when we are bombarded with 'two for one' deals for confectionary at Super Markets and streets become alive with jack'o'lanterns and pumpkins....
For Catholics, there a deeper connection in our Catholic Tradition. While many people know All Hallows’ Eve (Halloween) as a time for costumes and treats, in the Catholic Church it has a deeper meaning. The word "hallow" means "holy" or "saint." So All Hallows’ Eve is the evening before All Saints’ Day. It is like getting ready for an important feast day. All Saints’ Day, celebrated on 1 November, is when the Church thanks God for all the saints. Saints are people who followed Jesus closely and are now with God in heaven. Some saints are well known, like St Agatha, St Mary MacKillop and St Carlo Acutis, while many others are ordinary holy people whose names we do not know.
Some questions you could ask your children about All Saints Day are:
- Which saint inspires you and why?
- What qualities helped that saint follow Jesus?
- How can you show those qualities at school or at home?
- What does it mean to be a saint in today's world?

Please Pray for our 11 staff currently studying to complete their Certificate II in Religious Education - Teach or Lead in a Catholic School
Congratulations to our eleven staff who began their RE Accreditation this year, including four of our education support team studying to enter the teaching profession in our Diocese. This is a true indication of how committed our team is to ensuring high quality Catholic Education for all students and by default, families. They will study one unit a term over two years. This year's learning has focused on:
Unit 1 - Religious Education and the Catholic School
Unit 2 - Catholic Identity
Unit 3 - Scripture

All units studied during this course compliment our work as a school, aligned to our improvement priorities, related to our curriculum "To Live in Christ Jesus" and contirbute to strengthening Parish and School Partnerships.
Watch this space in our next newsletter for their reflections on how their practice has been adapted as a result of their learnings in this sponsored study....... from our first Catholic School in Australia to St Agatha's 2026... and beyond!
