What We're Learning
Throughout the remainder of Term Four, we are continuing to build on the skills developed across the year as students prepare for a successful transition to Year One.
Religion
We are continuing to explore ways we can show kindness, inclusion and care for others through our learning about being a good neighbour. Later in the term, students will learn about Advent and reflect on the values of hope, peace, joy and love as we prepare for Christmas.
English
We are continuing to strengthen students' reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students will continue developing their phonics knowledge, reading fluency and comprehension strategies, while building confidence in writing simple sentences using correct punctuation and high-frequency words. They will also continue sharing ideas, expressing opinions and retelling familiar stories through discussion, play and writing.
Mathematics
We are continuing to consolidate number skills by recognising, representing and ordering numbers to 20. Students will also continue exploring position and location language, using terms such as next to, behind, between and in front of to describe the world around them.
Science
We are continuing to investigate how objects move through pushes and pulls. Through hands-on activities and experiments, students will explore how forces can change the speed, direction and movement of objects.
Personal and Social Capabilities
We are continuing to develop independence, responsibility and positive relationships. Students will practise managing their belongings, following routines, working collaboratively with others and using effective communication skills to build and maintain friendships.
Supporting Learning at Home
We encourage students to continue reading each day, practising high-frequency words, discussing stories and noticing letters, sounds and punctuation in everyday texts.
For Mathematics, simple activities such as counting objects, recognising numbers in the environment and using positional language during play can help reinforce classroom learning.
This term, we are also continuing to encourage students to build their independence by unpacking their own belongings, beginning tasks independently and confidently managing daily classroom routines.
