Year 7 Camp and more

This week, our Year 7 students from Yawa, Murnong and Warreeny Sub-Schools headed off on camp to Camp Rumbug in South Gippsland, spending a few days away from the classroom taking part in outdoor activities and enjoying a shared experience together.
Set among 200 acres of rainforest with sweeping views towards Wilsons Promontory National Park, Camp Rumbug provided the perfect backdrop for students to step outside their comfort zones and take part in a wide range of outdoor activities. Across the camp, students embraced opportunities to try new experiences and build friendships in a different setting.
Highlights of the program included raft building, canoeing, Jacob’s Ladder and the always-popular Mud Run. The Mud Run saw students navigate a hilly obstacle course filled with challenges that required teamwork and perseverance as they climbed and splashed their way through the course.
On the water, canoeing gave students the chance to develop coordination and communication as they paddled, learning to work in sync and support one another. Raft building tested their problem-solving and collaboration skills as teams designed and constructed rafts using limited materials, putting their ideas into action under time pressure.
Jacob’s Ladder challenged students to think carefully about trust and teamwork as small groups worked together to climb a suspended ladder with widening gaps between the rungs, relying on communication, balance and encouragement to reach the top.
Beyond the activities themselves, camp provided valuable opportunities for students to develop independence and resilience. Away from screens and familiar routines, students supported one another, formed new friendships and learned more about what they can achieve when they work as a team.
The Year 7 camp was a memorable start to their secondary school journey and we look forward to seeing the confidence and skills they have gained carry back into the classroom.
