Student Representative Council Update
May has been a very busy month for the SRC. Throughout the month, we have been involved in a range of initiatives, events and activities that focused on student wellbeing, inclusion, leadership, community awareness and sustainability. We are proud to share some of the ways we have worked together to support important causes and make a positive contribution to our school community.
Do It For Dolly Day 2026
The SRC honoured Do It For Dolly Day on Friday, the 8th of May. Recognised nationally, Do It For Dolly Day raises awareness about the impacts of bullying and encourages kindness and standing up for others.
Students and staff were invited to wear blue free dress to honour Dolly Everett, a young victim of bullying whose story has inspired conversations around bullying prevention and mental health. Students also donated a gold coin to participate in the event, with Do It For Dolly chosen as the SRC’s Term 2 fundraising charity.
One of our Disability Inclusion Aides, Ms Daly, generously volunteered to bake cookies to help raise additional funds for the cause. Thanks to Ms Daly’s incredible efforts, more than $100 was raised through cookie sales at recess and lunchtime, in addition to the donations collected from the free dress day.
International Partnership with Prek Leap High School
Seven of our SRC students were selected to participate in an international student leadership partnership with Prek Leap High School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Ms Erjavec developed an Action Plan for both schools to work together on an issue that PSC and Prek Leap High School will focus on throughout the remainder of the year.
The collaboration officially began on the 15th of May, with students excited to meet one another online for the first time. They are now looking forward to continuing their regular communication and working together as part of this exciting partnership.
'Blackout' Conservation Initiative
The SRC is very passionate about conservation and came up with the idea of encouraging energy-saving practices each week. Since Week 4 of this term, every Thursday we have encouraged PSC staff and students to switch off unused power points in classrooms, turn off lights where possible and limit the use of ICT where appropriate.
We are very grateful for the support our school community has shown towards this initiative and look forward to continuing it throughout Term 2.
IDAHOBIT Day
To honour IDAHOBIT Day this year, we hosted an event on Monday, the 18th of May, at lunchtime to welcome and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community. IDAHOBIT is an important day to raise awareness about the discrimination still faced by LGBTQIA+ people around the world, while also promoting inclusion, respect and acceptance for everyone.
Students enjoyed a range of activities and had the opportunity to come together in a safe and supportive environment to celebrate diversity within our school community. It was fantastic to see students showing support for one another and helping create a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
As a school community, we believe it is important that everyone feels safe, valued and respected for who they are. Events such as IDAHOBIT Day help encourage understanding, kindness and acceptance, while reminding us of the importance of standing up against discrimination and supporting one another.
We thank everyone who came and helped organise and support this event.
National Reconciliation Week 2026
This week, we proudly recognised National Reconciliation Week, with this year’s theme, “All In”, encouraging all Australians to work together towards understanding, respect and reconciliation. Throughout the week, students and staff took part in a range of activities that celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and voices, while also reflecting on the importance of learning from the past and building a stronger future together.
After speaking with our Koorie Captain, Raine Williams and our Koorie Support Worker, Nathan, from the Wellbeing Team, we worked together to organise a series of activities to honour this important week.
We started the week with Bunurong Land Gratitude boxes placed in all sub-schools for staff and students to submit notes of gratitude for the land on which we work and learn. On National Sorry Day, Ms Erjavec created a very informative mini lesson that students listened to in one of their classes, exploring the history and significance of Reconciliation Week, including National Sorry Day, the 1967 Referendum and the historic 1992 High Court Mabo decision.
On Wednesday, Acknowledgement of Country plaques were placed on classroom doors throughout the College. These plaques serve as an important reminder of the Traditional Custodians of the land and help encourage ongoing respect and reflection within our learning spaces. On Thursday, students enjoyed Indigenous arts and craft activities in the library at lunchtime.
Also on Thursday, our Koorie Captain, Raine, alongside College Vice Captain Stephanie, SRC Captain Shakira and Indigenous student Bryan, attended A Celebration of National Reconciliation Week hosted by Cardinia Shire Council at the Cardinia Cultural Centre with Assistant Principal Mrs Chandler.
National Reconciliation Week is an important opportunity for us to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to continue building positive relationships based on understanding and respect. As a school community, we are proud to support and celebrate this important week and the conversations and learning that come with it.
We thank Ms Erjavec, our SRC Coordinator, for helping us organise the Reconciliation Week events and activities.
