Reading: Students are exploring Girl on Wire and analysing how the author uses character choices, word choice, symbolism and colour to communicate deeper ideas. They are also developing their ability to answer literal and inferential questions and read aloud with fluency and expression.
Writing: Students are revising and editing their information reports. They are selecting precise verbs and adjectives to create a strong voice, checking that their ideas are supported by facts and evidence, and crafting conclusions that leave readers with an important final message.
Numeracy: Our focus continues to be multiplicative thinking. Students are applying a range of strategies to solve multiplication problems, including two-digit by one-digit, three-digit by one-digit and two-digit by two-digit calculations. They are also explaining and justifying their mathematical thinking.
Inquiry: Students are continuing to investigate how the structural and behavioural adaptations of animals help them survive in different ecosystems. To extend this learning, our Grade 5 students will visit Werribee Open Range Zoo next Friday, 28 August. Please ensure all permission forms and required information have been completed.
Wellbeing: As part of Bullying No Way Week, students are exploring the theme “Small Acts, Big Impact.” They are learning how small actions—such as including others, speaking up, showing kindness and being an upstander—can help create a safe, respectful and welcoming school environment.
