PERFORMING ARTS
STRING QUARTET
On Wednesday 24 July, Mrs Bugeja's String Quartet provided the music for the Region's 35 Year Service Award ceremony at the Dingley Hotel. This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of McKinnon's music students to staff from around the region. Congratulations to Kevin Jin (Year 12), May Tran (Year 12), Phoebe Rodda (Year 12) and Jack Sweeney (Year 12). And a special mention to Mr Frank Russo who was there receiving his 35-year service award.

VCE THEATRE STUDIES
It's been a busy start to semester 2 for all VCE Theatre Studies students heading to the theatre to see live productions as part of their Unit 2 and Unit 4 outcomes. On Thursday 25 July the Years 12s ventured to the city to see Macbeth (An Undoing), presented at the Malthouse Theatre. This viewing focussed on Lady Macbeth and the telling of her story using imaginative costumes, sets and other production roles, all which the Year 12s have been unpacking in class and preparing to write on for their final exam.
On Wednesday 31 July, the Year 11s took on a more 'light-hearted' show and shared in the magic of Beauty and the Beast the Musical, presented at Her Majesty's Theatre. With a focus this semester on modern theatre styles, the use of musical elements and magic provided valuable insight into theatrical possibilities, providing valuable and engaging conversations in class as well as preparing students for their upcoming assessment.
An enjoyable, educational and memorable start to the term for all.

VSMF - INTERMEDIATE STAGE BAND
Congratulations to the Intermediate Stage Band on their outstanding performance at the sectional performance on Wednesday 31 July. Adjudicator Jemima Bunn acknowledged the amazing sounds that the band had worked hard to achieve and gave special congratulations to Frankie Noble (Year 10) for her excellent solo in the ballad. Thank you to Stuart Byrne for his development of this group and organisation of the excursion, and to Martin West for his
attendance.
BAND CLINICIAN AND WORKSHOP
On Wednesday 31 July both Year 8 Bands and the Ovenden Band had a fantastic opportunity to work with Joe O’Callaghan, local music teacher, band director and jazz musician. Students were encouraged to think about internalising the beat, developing a balanced sound within the ensemble and finding interesting ways to convey musicality within their own part.
