SEMESTER ONE GEO CHALLENGE DAY
On Wednesday 26 June, all Year 8 students undertaking Geography this semester were involved in the Kummargee GEOChallenge Day.
From periods 1 to 4, geography students rotated through a series of challenges based on using geographic skills they learnt during the semester and applying them to a range of external activities run at different scales. For example, mapping skills were applied to a GeoCaching activity; research skills were used to identify the landscape that their First Nations/Kummargee Group lived in and thus infer what resources were available to them before and after European settlement; and the key geographic concept of distribution was used to identify and describe the distribution of Indigenous Australians before and after European settlement and suggestions made to account for these differences. We also had some fun with Kahoots and games looking at understanding flags, capitals and interesting facts from countries around the world.
This was a great way to celebrate the end of the semester and earn points towards the Kummargee Rise Up Challenge which runs all year. It was also a fun way to finish off Geography as the Year 8 Geography students move on to History for semester two. Even the weather was kind to us on the day for the outdoor activities! A hearty congratulations to 8M who took out the GEO Challenge for semester one - well done!

YEAR 8 MEDIAEVAL DAY
At the end of Term 2, Year 8 History classes returned to Mediaeval times as part of the Year 8 Kummargee Challenge.
Alongside our Year 8 History teachers, students had the opportunity to dress up in Mediaeval dress, with students coming dressed as peasants, knights, queens, vikings, and witches.
Classes were then split into their Kummargee groups to undertake Mediaeval-inspired creative activities. Students designed colourful class shields with Mr Gurry, created practical (and impractical) paper castles with Miss Arneil, built effective da Vinci bridges out of icy pole sticks with Mr Jansen, or competed in trivia & puzzles with Ms Ozcagli. Their Kummargee groups' efforts were judged & points awarded.
Following recess, students viewed Hall of Fame Creative Project videos from their class’s work earlier in the semester.
To conclude Mediaeval Day, everyone got involved in Mediaeval games, such as skittles, quoits, card games, and tug-of-war.
Mediaeval Day was an enriching opportunity for Year 8 students to engage in hands-on History learning and conclude their History studies for the year.
