FRENCH MODEL UN
On Friday 26 July, the Year 12 French class embarked on an enriching excursion to participate in a French Model United Nations (MUN) conference, an event designed to immerse students in international diplomacy and global issues. Conversing with students from other French schools offered us a unique platform to develop our public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.
The students were assigned roles as delegates representing various countries, engaging in intense debates on pressing global matters regarding climate change. The conference not only provided a practical application of our classroom learning but also deepened our understanding of geopolitical dynamics and the intricacies of international relations as well as our speaking skills.

GERMAN MODEL UN
The German Model UN, held at a venue in North Melbourne, was a simulation of the General Assembly of the United Nations, but conducted in the German language. The formalities and structure of discussion of a draft resolution were adhered to by the Secretary General for the day in the same way as they are conducted at the UN. Seventy-seven students learning German at nine schools attended on the day we were there (due to the numbers involved, a second day of the event involving learners of German from yet more schools was held the previous day).
Â
In advance our students (mainly VCE learners of German) had prepared their position statements and their research on the policies of the nation that they were to represent. There was lively debate on amendments to the draft resolution about âPlanet Ocean: Protecting the Worldâs Oceans, Seas, and Marine Resourcesâ, and students from the various schools enthusiastically got into the spirit of the event, and formed policy and voting alliances with students from other schools who were representing other countries. During the break times and during the negotiation sessions this was also an opportunity for our students to get to know students from other schools who also learn German. A great extra-curricular learning experience!
