ADVANCED MATHEMATICS SEMINAR

In the last week of Term 2, Year 12 student, Mark Soloviov gave an advanced mathematics seminar in the Pitsa Binnion Senior Centre during lunchtime to showcase his recent independent research work on complex analysis in an extended number system. The work was very impressive as it was based on materials usually taught at senior university level only.

Staff and students were both amazed (and bemused) by the complexity of the algebraic techniques discussed. It is very rare that a high school student can comprehend such advanced level mathematics, not to say, conducting his own investigation on it.

Mark was originally from Ukraine and arrived in Australia as a refugee about two years ago. His VCE studies include: Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Physics, Chemistry, German and English (as an additional language).
