Successful start for Senior, Intermediate and Junior Concert Band

Congratulations to all returning music students who had their first rehearsals and music lessons this week. All the groups are sounding fantastic and we’re looking forward to a great year of music making.

Year 7 Training Band

Each year we form a new Training Concert Band for Year 7 students interested in learning an instrument. This band is for students who have had little or no previous musical experience in a concert band setting. Training Concert Band rehearses every Wednesday after school from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. The first rehearsal is Wednesday 18 March. The instruments involved in this kind of band are Flute, Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Saxophone, Percussion, Double Bass, Tuba and Euphonium.

Next week Instrumental Music teachers will be demonstrating all the instruments students can learn at Frankston High School to Year 7 classes. Friday 20 February our Senior Concert Band will also put on a Concert in the PAT for all Year 7 students. Lastly we have an evening where students can talk to our music teachers and try out the different instruments they might like to play at Frankston High School. This will be on Tuesday 24 February, at 7.00pm in the PAT.

The band program at Frankston High School is a big part of the school’s extra curricula activities and a great thing to get involved in. The program involves approximately 200 students who perform in a variety of bands, all of which enjoy great success.

Important Music Dates for Term 1 2026

Week 3 (9-12 Feb) | Instrumental Music Teachers will demonstrate the different instruments to each class through the week.

Week 4 (Friday 20 February) |  Our Senior Concert Band will perform for all Year 7 students.

Week 5 (Tuesday 24 February, 7.00pm) Instrument Trial Night, student can try the different instruments and talk to teachers.

Week 6 (from 2 March) |  Lessons start

Week 8 (Wednesday 18 March, 3.30pm-4.30pm) | First Training Band rehearsal

Frankston High School Choir 2026

Ms Laughlin and Ms Bretherton rehearse the Frankston High School Choir every Thursday lunch time in Room 72. Frankston High School choir does a number of performances both in the school and in the community throughout the year. No experience is required. Students interested are encouraged to come along and watch a rehearsal and talk to Ms Laughlin and Ms Bretherton about getting involved.
