TEACHING & LEARNING Update

Assessment and Reporting
Frankston High School uses to a continuous reporting model to support student learning by providing constructive, supportive, and timely feedback to students and parents/carers. Students have greater capacity to engage in their learning by applying the suggested strategies for further development throughout each semester. We encourage students and parents/carers to check Compass > Learning Tasks regularly. Please see the attached guide below for further information about our assessment processes.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. An information brochure is attached below. This year, Year 7 and 9 students will complete the NAPLAN tests online from Wednesday 11 March to Monday 16 March, with catch-up tests to follow. More information will be shared with students and parents/carers in the coming weeks.
Welcome to our new staff
We have been fortunate to welcome some fantastic new staff to Frankston High School this year. We’re proud to introduce some of them to our school community below, with more introductions to follow in later newsletters!
James Nicklen has joined the Frankston High School English teaching team, and he is thrilled to be teaching Year 7 English, Year 8 English, Year 12 VCE VM Literacy and Year 12 English. A keen reader, writer and student of language, James has been teaching for over 10 years in both primary and secondary settings, most recently at Mordialloc College. Outside of the classroom, James enjoys playing chef and cooking for his family, all things music, and playing board games. He looks forward to meeting many of you as he settles in at the school.
Hi all! I’m Guilaine André. I am a French teacher at Frankston High School and currently teach Years 7, 8 and 9. I have been teaching for over 12 years and enjoy helping students build confidence in language learning and intercultural understanding. I am passionate about making French engaging, inclusive, and relevant to students’ lives. Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, exploring new places, and spending time with family and friends.
Hi, I’m Phoebe Lewin. I am teaching English and History at Frankston High School this year. I have been on maternity leave with my youngest child for the past two years. I worked at my previous school for 12 years teaching accelerated English and Humanities streams as well as VCE Literature and English. Outside of work you will find me chasing after my three kids, reading and doing pilates.
Hi, I’m Tahnee Richardson, and I’m excited to be joining Frankston High School this year as a Year 10 Coordinator. I also teach Health, Sport Ed and VCE VM. I’m really looking forward to getting to know all the wonderful students and staff and to be part of what’s shaping up to be a great year at Frankston High School. Outside of school, one thing I’d love to tick off my bucket list is hiking the Dolomites in Italy.
My name is Shaun Hawker and I've been teaching English and History for 9 years. I'll be predominantly involved in VCE English and I will also be the Year 11 Coordinator, meaning the Year 11 and 12 students will be seeing me around a lot! Outside of school, I'm a health nut, horror movie enthusiast, and a dedicated dad to two perfect golden retrievers. Very excited to be starting my Frankston High School journey, and to become a part of this fantastic school community.
Hi! My name is Aiden Smith and I am a Health, PE, Outdoor Ed and VM teacher. I went to Frankston High School as a student and after working interstate and travelling abroad for a few years, I have landed back at this amazing school. I am very excited to work with all different year levels and be amongst all the programs that our school has to offer!
