Book Week & Dress-up Day

Preparations for our Book Week celebrations are well underway in the library. Organised by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA), it will be celebrated from 22nd August to 28th August. This year's theme is "Symphony of Stories". Our celebrations will conclude with our annual Book Week Dress-Up Day on Friday 28th August.

Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite fictional book character. There is no need to purchase an expensive costume - we encourage students to get creative by using items from around the home, along with cardboard, paint, or handmade masks. There is plenty of inspiration available online, including on Pinterest.

To ensure costumes are suitable for all students, we ask that they do not include scary or Halloween-style masks, or toy weapons.

Participation in the Dress-up Day is optional. Students who choose not to dress up should attend school in their full school uniform.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Please have all completed books entered on the official website no later than Friday 28th August. Although the official closing date is Friday 4th September, please be aware that as coordinator, I will need at least a week to verify all books and complete other administrative tasks before I send the completion report to the Department on 4th September.

Book Fair

To continue our Book Week celebrations, our annual Book Fair will be hosted by the library between 1st - 4th September in the gym foyer; please check the opening times below. The Book Fair is a hugely popular event at Essendon North Primary School and a great way to get kids excited about books and reading. Provided by Scholastic Australia, the fair is a mobile book shop with hundreds of fun, engaging and affordable picture books, fiction and non-fiction books, novelty pens and pencils, posters, and activity packs! Entrance is through the library door and purchases can be made on the day with cash or by EFTPOS.

Our school receives a percentage of sales in the form of Scholastic reward points which will be used to purchase new books and resources for our whole school literacy programme so please come along and support our Fair. There will be something for everyone and every budget!

Events such as the Book Fair can only run with the invaluable help of parent volunteers. If you can spare half an hour before or after school on any of the above days, please contact Ms Julie in the library (your children or any younger siblings are welcome to hang out and browse the Fair during the half hour). Duties include taking cash and EFTPOS payments, crowd control, and packing away the bookcases.
