Artist Study in Years Three and Four

The past few weeks, students in Years 3SM, 3VM, 4CT and 4IW have been inquiring into contemporary artist Sandra Silberzweig and her amazing portraits. They have inquired into the Visual Arts elements of line, shape, pattern and balance and have used their understandings to create portraits of their own. They have also inquired into using art as a tool for a person’s welfare. Did you know, for example, that Sandra Silberzweig has a condition called Synesthesia. 

Synesthesia is… “a harmless neurological trait, affecting 2–4% of people, where stimulation of one sense triggers involuntary experiences in another (e.g., hearing music as colours or tasting words).” 

Sandra can hear and taste colours!! It was just fascinating!!

The concept of ‘analogous colours’ was also introduced in these sessions. Analogous colours are colours that sit next to each other on the Colour Wheel.

Students also wrote their own Gallery Label with their name, title of their artwork and materials used.

It was such a difficult task selecting the artworks below as they all deserved to be displayed. Look out for individual class artworks that will be uploaded onto Seesaw for families of these artists to enjoy!!!
