Wellbeing Snapshot – Term 3 Theme: Brave Choices, Big Feelings
This term, our whole-school wellbeing theme is “Brave Choices, Big Feelings.”
Throughout Term 3, students will explore the question: “How do I manage my feelings when I’m stressed?”
As part of our Respectful Relationships learning, students will develop their understanding of emotions and learn strategies to recognise, express and manage their feelings in positive ways. They will explore how our emotions can influence our thoughts, behaviours and relationships with others.
Students will also continue to build their wellbeing toolkit through our Smiling Mind lessons, where they will practise mindfulness strategies to help calm their minds, regulate emotions and develop greater awareness of how they are feeling. Through mindfulness, students learn to pause, notice their emotions and make thoughtful choices in how they respond.
Students will practise strategies to support emotional regulation, including breathing techniques, positive self-talk, problem-solving, taking mindful pauses and seeking support when needed.
We know that everyone experiences big feelings at times. Being brave doesn’t mean we never feel worried, frustrated or overwhelmed-it means noticing our feelings, understanding them and choosing a helpful response.
Throughout the term, we encourage students to make brave choices by showing kindness, trying new things, asking for help when needed and supporting others to feel safe, respected and included.
Together, we can build a community where everyone feels confident to understand their feelings, manage challenges and make positive choices.
Thanks,
Fiona Arthur (School Wellbeing Co-ordinator)
