Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 3! It is great to see everyone back on-site and ready for a busy term ahead. We have so much to look forward to over the coming weeks, including our House Athletics for Years 3–6, our Grade 5 camp in Ballarat, Science Day, Book Fun Day, Footy and Maths Day, Movie Night and much more. While all of these events are highlights on our calendar, we are particularly excited to celebrate a major milestone this Friday: our Preps reaching their 100th day of school. It’s going to be a fantastic way to kick off the term.

2026 NAPLAN Results

Our recent NAPLAN results have been released, and it’s a pleasure to see such a strong reflection of the hard work and academic progress happening across our school. These results are a testament to the dedication of our students and the high standard of teaching provided by our staff.

While it is certainly worth celebrating these achievements, it’s important to remember that NAPLAN is just one measure of a student's learning. It provides us with a useful snapshot of Literacy and Numeracy at a single point in time, but it doesn't capture the full scope of our students’ growth, their creative talents, or the social and emotional development we see every day at Blackburn Primary School. We look forward to continuing to use this data to support every student as they grow and learn.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our parent-teacher conferences at the end of Term 2. These meetings were a valuable opportunity to connect, share your child’s progress, and discuss the goals we are working towards together. We truly value the partnership between home and school, and we look forward to continuing that collaboration throughout the remainder of the year.

2027 Enrolments

A reminder that enrolments for our 2027 Prep intake are closing soon. If you have a younger child starting school next year, or if you know of friends or family considering Blackburn Primary School, please ensure applications are submitted by Friday, 31st July 2026. Applications are completed online via the VicStudents website

Bike Safety Reminder

As we begin Term 3, an important reminder for students about bike and scooter safety on their way to and from school:

To keep everyone safe on site, please remind children to walk their bikes and scooters once inside the school gates and through the grounds.
Encourage children to take extra care and use designated crossings on their journeys.
If your child's route takes them near the medical centre, please talk to them about being extra vigilant around the busy carpark area and the general community attending the facility.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

year of schooling
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.
