Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

Last week, our students enjoyed participating in Pyjama Day while supporting the Open Doors Foundation. It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in their favourite pyjamas while raising awareness and funds for a cause that helps provide educational opportunities for children and young people. Thank you for your generosity and support.

Next week, our Year 4 students are looking forward to their excursion to the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. This exciting learning experience will provide students with the opportunity to explore a range of Australian landscapes and deepen their understanding of the natural environment through hands-on activities and investigations.

Learning for Year 4

Religious Education:

Next week, students will create persuasive eco-action posters to encourage others to care for the environment. They will explore how persuasive language, eye-catching visuals, and clear messages can inspire positive environmental actions and help make a difference in their community.

English:

Next week in English, students will learn how to plan and write a body paragraph for a factual recount. They will revise the purpose and key features of factual recounts and use the correct structure to organise information clearly. Students will develop their planning skills and apply appropriate text features to create an effective body paragraph.

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, students will learn how to calculate elapsed time to the hour using number lines. They will practise finding the amount of time that has passed within the same half of the day, as well as solving problems that cross midday or midnight. Students will develop their understanding of time and apply their skills to a range of real-life situations.

Integrated Curriculum:

In Integrated Studies next week, students will compare different vegetation environments and investigate how these environments support people, animals, and plants. They will identify similarities and differences between environments, explore environmental challenges, and examine ways these areas can be protected. Students will present their findings using evidence, facts, and visuals.

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will review and consolidate their learning from Term 2. Throughout the term, students have been developing their understanding of communicative language use with others, while also learning about non-manual features, signing space, and the important role of pointing in Auslan. Students will participate in a variety of engaging games and activities that incorporate the signs and concepts learned throughout the term, providing opportunities to practise their skills and build confidence in communicating using Auslan.

Social & Emotional Learning:

In Social and Emotional Learning next week, students will explore the many ways people and families can be different. They will discuss and celebrate diversity, recognising that families come in many forms and that our differences make our community unique and inclusive.

Congratulations to our award winners!

Important Reminders:

Excursion to Cranbourne Royal Botanical Gardens

A reminder that our excursion to the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens will take place on Thursday 17 June. Please ensure students arrive promptly at school by 8:45 am so that we can prepare for the day and depart on time.

Students are to wear their PE uniform and, as we will be outdoors for much of the day, please ensure they are dressed warmly. Students will also need to bring a raincoat, water bottle, fruit break, snack, and lunch. As part of our sustainability focus, all food items should be package-free where possible. Please note that cutlery will not be provided, so please ensure any required utensils are packed.

Students will be responsible for carrying their own belongings throughout the day. If your child has a small backpack suitable for carrying their items, they are welcome to bring it; otherwise, their regular school bag will be fine.

There are still a number of outstanding permissions for this excursion. Please ensure these are completed as soon as possible through PAM. If you experience any difficulties accessing or completing the permission form, please contact the school office for assistance.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to a wonderful day of learning and exploration.

Enjoy your weekend,

The Jericho Team
