Visual Arts Foundation - Grade 4
Foundation
This term in Visual Arts, Foundation students painted colourful textured papers and explored the story of God’s Creation and the Garden of Eden. They brainstormed ideas such as animals, plants, fruits, vegetables, and nature, then sorted their ideas into colour groups using the painted papers they created. Students are currently practising scissor safety and cutting skills, learning how to hold and use scissors correctly while cutting along lines and shapes. These skills will help prepare them for the next stage of the art project, where they will use their painted papers to create a collaborative class collage mural celebrating God’s Creation.
What you can do at home to help
It would be beneficial for students to continue practising their cutting skills at home with adult supervision, as regular practice helps develop confidence, hand strength, and fine motor control. 🎨🌈
Grades One and Two
This term in Visual Arts, Grade One and Two students have been using Seesaw on their iPads and Chromebooks to complete a Colour Wheel assessment task. This activity provided students with an opportunity to explain their thinking and demonstrate their understanding of primary and secondary colours. Students identified how secondary colours are created by mixing primary colours and shared patterns they discovered within the colour wheel. Through their voice recordings, dictation, drawings and written responses, students were able to reflect on their learning and communicate their understanding of colour theory.
What you can do at home to help
You can support your child at home by discussing colours you see in everyday life and encouraging them to experiment with mixing colours through painting, drawing, clay or other creative activities. 🎨🌈
Grades Three and Four
This term in Visual Arts, Grade Three and Four students have been transferring their graffiti and shadow writing designs onto their art folders. After sketching in grey lead and outlining with permanent marker, students were excited to begin using Posca paint markers to add colour to their lettering. Students learnt how to use Posca markers safely and respectfully before colouring their designs. They will then use acrylic paint and brushes to complete the background of their artwork.
What you can do at home to help
You can support your child at home by encouraging them to practise drawing interest letters and shadow writing. If you are looking to purchase some Posca paint markers you can get them from Officeworks, Spotlight, Riot Art & Craft, and other art supply stores.🎨✏️
