Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Families,
Last week, our Grade 5 students enjoyed participating in Pyjama Day while supporting the Open Doors Foundation. It was wonderful to see everyone dressed in their favourite pyjamas while raising awareness and funds for a cause that helps provide educational opportunities for children and young people. Thank you for your generosity and support in helping make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Religious Education:
Next week in Religious Education, students will review and consolidate their learning about the Holy Spirit. They will explore how the Holy Spirit guided important people such as Mary, the disciples and St Francis of Assisi, and explain the significance of Pentecost for Christians. Students will also reflect on how the Fruits of the Spirit help people show peace, kindness and reconciliation in their everyday lives, while working collaboratively to share and present their learning.
English:
Next week in English, students will explore a poem and discuss both its literal and deeper meanings. They will investigate how poets use language to create meaning, learn new vocabulary from the text, and practise using these words in context. Students will also strengthen their writing skills by creating statements, commands, questions and exclamations about a given topic.
Mathematics:
Next week in Mathematics, students will explore chance by identifying and comparing fair and unfair chance experiments. They will investigate different outcomes, discuss the likelihood of events occurring, and learn to express probability using fractions.
Integrated Curriculum:
Next week in Integrated Studies, students will learn about migration and how it connects Australia to other countries. They will explore the meaning of migration, identify push and pull factors that influence people to move, and investigate how migration contributes to Australia's diverse and connected society.
Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will learn how pointing is used in sign languages to communicate meaning. They will explore how pointing can be used to sign pronouns, such as "I", "you" and "they", as well as prepositions that show location and direction. Students will practise using these signs to communicate clearly and effectively in simple conversations.

Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week in Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore productive and unproductive coping strategies and discuss how different choices can affect their wellbeing. They will identify positive ways to manage challenges and practise selecting healthy coping strategies that can be used in everyday situations.
