Spotlight on Learning

Jerusalem Community

Dear Families,

Happy Week 8!

We started our week with another long weekend, and it was wonderful to hear all about the exciting activities and adventures students enjoyed with their families.

On the 17th of June Year 1 students will be leading Mass. All families are welcomed to join the joyous celebration. Next week , on Friday 19th June, students will also participate in an incursion designed to build their teamwork and problem-solving skills through a range of engaging activities. We are looking forward to this exciting learning opportunity.

Finally, a reminder to please book a Parent-Teacher Interview if you have not already done so. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for you and your child's teacher to discuss how your child is progressing.

Have a lovely rest of the week.

Learning for the Week Ahead

Religious Education: We are unpacking the element and reading within our Mass and  reflecting upon what we have learnt this term about "What helps us grow?"

Writing: Next week we will be reading Iggy Peck Architect, by Andrea Beaty. The book discusses following your dreams when it comes to doing what you love. We will be asking students about different types of jobs people do, so have a conversation at home about what jobs you may have done.

Reading:  Next week we are learning the digraphs oy and oi make the /oi/ sound.

Mathematics:  Next week we are going to be working on telling time and talking about events that take a long or short period of time.

Integrated Curriculum: Next week in Geography, students will learn about landmarks around the world and identify their key features. This will help build their understanding of different places and cultures.

Social and Emotional Learning: Next week, students will learn about problem-solving and ways to manage everyday challenges. They will explore the difference between small and big problems, discuss possible solutions, and think about how their choices can help solve problems.

Auslan: We will continue to review signs we learnt during the term.

What you can do at home

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.

• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.

• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.

• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”

• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that made you laugh?

Important Reminders
