Spotlight on Learning

Galilee Community

Dear Families,

Our Foundation learners continue to impress us with their positive attitudes and growing skills. They are embracing challenges, supporting one another, and showing what it means to be safe, respectful, and engaged learners. It has been wonderful to see their confidence increase as they take on new learning experiences, develop friendships, and become more independent in their daily routines. We are proud of the effort and enthusiasm they bring to the classroom each day and look forward to celebrating their continued growth throughout the term.

Learning for the Week Ahead

Religious Education:

Next week in Religious Education, students will be learning about the Church as God's people and the special role churches play as places where Catholics gather to pray, worship God, and celebrate Mass. They will explore important features of a church building and develop an understanding of why these spaces are meaningful to the Catholic community. Students will also learn that Jesus gives us spiritual nourishment through Mass and discuss how they can show respect and reverence when participating in church celebrations.

English:

Next week, we will be reading 'Stay for Dinner' by Sandhya Parappukkaran. This beautiful story follows a young girl named Reshma as she navigates friendships, family traditions, and cultural differences. Through the sharing of food and experiences, students will explore themes of belonging, inclusion, and respect for different cultures. The story encourages children to celebrate diversity and appreciate the unique traditions that make each family special.

We encourage families to watch/read next weeks book with their child. Please follow the link below.

During explicit phonics instructions, we will reviewing all sounds from stage 1-4.

We introduce sounds based on the Little Learners Love Literacy book 'Milo's Birthday Surprise'.

Save the date: Milo's birthday surprise - Friday 19th June 2026. Wear party clothes and bring a party food lunch.

Using hands-on materials and visual representations, they will explore partitioning numbers to 5 and 10 into two and three parts. Through these activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of number relationships and build strong foundations for future addition and subtraction concepts.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Inquiry, students will be learning about how Aboriginal peoples used observations of nature to understand and recognise the changing seasons. They will explore signs in the environment, such as changes in plants, animals, and weather patterns, and discover how these observations guided daily life. Students will compare Aboriginal seasonal calendars with the four European seasons and develop an understanding that different cultures can view and interpret the natural world in different ways.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL):

Next week in SEL, students will be learning about problems that can occur at home and at school, and how these situations can affect our feelings. They will explore what a problem is, identify common problems they may experience, and discuss the different emotions that can arise when challenges occur.
