Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families,

It has been a short but productive week in Year 6, with students returning to school on Tuesday after the King’s Birthday long weekend. We hope all families enjoyed a restful break. In English, students have been developing their reading and writing skills by analysing texts, building vocabulary, and creating engaging pieces of writing. We are proud of the enthusiasm and focus students have shown throughout the week and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead. In Mathematics, students continued learning about probability, identifying and comparing the likelihood of events using fractions, decimals, and number lines. Leadership Groups focused on planning and promoting an event or activity for a specific audience, developing their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills along the way.

English: In English, students have been introduced to our new class text, Free Diving, which tells the story of a young man who leaves his family and Country to work alongside Japanese and Malay divers. Students are exploring themes of courage, belonging, and resilience through the story and its beautiful illustrations.

Mathematics: In Mathematics, students applied probability to real-life situations and compared the expected and actual results of chance experiments. They used their understanding of likelihood to make predictions, collect data, and analyse outcomes.

Integrated Curriculum: In Integrated, students used geographical evidence to investigate climate hazards and developed evidence-based conclusions about their impacts on communities and environments.

Auslan: In Auslan, students completed their assessment by demonstrating their ability to use signing space to give and follow directions and incorporate the pronoun YOU into signs through appropriate eye contact.

Social & Emotional Learning: In SEL, students explored problem-solving strategies and practised ways to approach challenges thoughtfully and work through problems effectively.
