At our school, we know that every day of learning matters. Attending school regularly gives children the best opportunity to build their knowledge, develop important skills, connect with their friends and feel a strong sense of belonging to our Skye school community.
We understand that children do get sick, families have appointments and sometimes unexpected things happen. However, when children miss school regularly, even a day here and there can begin to add up and create gaps in their learning.
đ Learning: Lessons build on one another. Missing a day can sometimes mean missing an important piece of learning that helps children understand what comes next. Often our lessons follow a sequence, building upon what was learnt the previous day. Especially in Literacy when reading class novels!
đ€ Friendships and belonging: School is about much more than academic learning. Being at school each day helps children maintain friendships, participate in activities and feel connected to their classmates and teachers.
đ± Confidence and routines: Regular attendance helps children develop positive routines, independence and confidence. Knowing what to expect each day can make children feel secure and ready to learn. This in particular impacts our student who arrive late. As a part of our Berry Street model, each classroom at 8:55 completes a morning circle routine which includes:
Greeting
School Values
Expectations
Announcements
Positive Primer
What Went Well
Â
Being part of the morning circle allows our students to take the time to be together, side by side, establish a common understanding and share positive emotions. A morning circle sets the classroom up for success.

â Making the most of opportunities: From classroom activities and specialist lessons to excursions, sporting events and special school experiences, regular attendance allows children to be part of the many opportunities school has to offer.
We want every child to feel happy, safe and successful at Skye Primary School. Attendance is something we can work on together, and we encourage families to make regular school attendance a priority wherever possible.
If your child is finding it difficult to come to school, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher. There may be things we can do together to make coming to school easier. You don't have to navigate attendance concerns on your own.
Thank you to our families for supporting your children to attend school regularly and arrive ready for the day. Every day really does count, and every day is an opportunity to learn, connect and grow.
