Literacy

Recently, we have been learning the ‘sh’, ‘ch’ and ‘tch’ digraphs. Students have practised reading words containing these sounds and writing sentences, such as “The witch has a chick.” Some of our short ‘ch’ and ‘tch’ words include: chip, chop, much, match, catch and pitch.

We have continued reading our mentor text, ‘Farmer John’s Tractor’. Using the narrative structure, students have been writing their own narratives by including a character, setting, problem and solution.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been learning to solve problems by sharing collections. Students have been practising making equal groups of two and three and exploring how to make groups of different sizes.

In Applied Mathematics, we have been learning to solve problems using verbal directions. Students have been practising giving and following directions to locate different places on a map. Students have been practising how to:

Follow verbal directions to find a location on a map.
Give clear directions to help a friend locate a place on a map.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, students have been exploring Activity 12 in the Zones Lessons. They have been learning to recognise whether a problem is small or huge and discussing appropriate coping strategies they can use to manage different situations.

Reminders

Satchels and Home Reading

Please ensure your child brings their satchel to school each day. To borrow a new coloured decodable book, your child must first return their current book. Once all boxes on the home reading sheet have been completed, please see your classroom teacher to collect a new sheet.

There is a QR code inside your child’s Boomerang Book which allows you to access Little Learners Love Literacy books online for additional reading practice at home. Here is a link to assist with reading: Reading at Home

Library

Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!

Shoelaces

We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Toileting Before School

Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.

Spare Clothes

Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.

Book Week

Skye Primary School had an exciting week at school filled with many enjoyable literacy activities. Children participated in classroom activities and a variety of tasks in the library. The highlight of the week was our annual parade, where children showcased many enchanting costumes.

Father’s Day

Foundation students had a wonderful time celebrating Father’s Day with their Dads, carers and special people. Students enjoyed creating a special craft together, playing a fun Maths game and visiting our Father’s Day stall to purchase a special gift for someone important to them. Our Dads and special guests also enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at school.

We wish all our Dads, Grandfathers and special people a very happy Father’s Day!
