Connect: Year 1

Hi families and friends of grade 1,
What a wonderful few weeks it has been. We had such a special book week and parade, it was amazing to see all the effort we put into our activities and costumes.
Important Dates:
| 8th September | Whole School Production |
| 11th September | Assembly @ 2:15pm |
| 18th September | Footy Day Lunch and Parade |
| 18th September | Early school finish @ 2:30pm |
Literacy:
Little Learners:
In Little Learners, we have been working hard on learning some new Phonemes for our vowels. We have learnt a-e (chase to the gate), a (acorns in april), i (find the giant), i-e (five strikes) and e-e (delete).
Writing:
In writing, we have been using our focus text 'Looking after country with fire' to help explore the components of persuasive writing. We are learning to plan a persuasive paragraph with 3 supporting details and beginning to expand our ideas into full sentences. Year 1 have also been learning about what a labelled diagram is. They have created their own labelled diagrams to explain how Cool burning works.
Math:
In Math, we are finishing off our patterns unit, learning about growing patterns and even starting to make our own number patterns.
Fluency:
We have also begun a new routine in grade 1 aiming to improve students automatic recall of number facts. For the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on these addition doubles equations:
1 + 1 = 2
2 + 2 = 4
3 + 3 = 6
4 + 4 = 8
5 + 5 = 10
You may like to practise doubles facts at home with your child by rolling some dice, flipping a playing card to double or writing some facts on a whiteboard.
Dojos:
Well done to the students who have received their silver or gold awards!
