Our Learning for Term 2, Weeks 3 & 4

In English, students will:

  • learn to read and write phonemes Stage 1 and 2 letter-sounds and identify these sounds in simple CVC words.

  • identify and say first, middle and final sounds in different words

  • segment and blend CVC words and sentences.

  • begin to spell words more independently using their awareness of letter sounds 

  • identify what makes a sentence and begin to use different sentence starters to describe their daily routines at school

  • discuss daily routines at school and sequence events in order.

  • predict what will happen in a story.

  • make text to self-connections and identify main ideas in a text about school and community.
 

In Maths, students will:

  • continue to use the 100 days of school chart to count and order numbers. 
  • continue to develop place value understanding through subitising up to 10, using a range of manipulatives and strategies such as counters, tens frames, and dice.
  • develop an understanding of place value using 2-digit numbers (from 11 to 20).
  • learn how to identify, count in order and write digits from 11 to 20.
  • learn to compare 1 and 2 digit numbers andidentify which is more or less. 

     

 

In Inquiry, students will explore:

  • where they are in the world.
  • different people in our community and how they help us
  • who is in their family and create a family tree.

     

 

In SEL, students will:

  • remember and practise our classroom and school routines.
  • continue to identify, manage and cope with strong emotions that can occur at school. 
 

News and Reminders:

  • Week 3: Tuesday 5th May and Wednesday 6th May. Mother's Day stall at school. You will be able to purchase tokens on Compass. 
  • Week 3: Friday 8th May: Mother's and Special Others Day breakfast at school. Read Compass posts for details.  
  • Tuesday 19th May - Curriculum Day (student free day)
  • Library books. Remember to return library books on your child's library day. 
  • Readers. Please continue to support your child by reading with them each day. As they learn new letters, sounds and words, regular practice helps build their confidence and improve their reading skills. 
  • Stay Updated on Your Child’s Learning. Please check Compass regularly to see information about your child’s assessments and progress. Compass also keeps you informed about important events and any changes at school.
