Our Learning - Weeks 3 & 4

The Outcomes are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). The VEYLDF is a curriculum framework designed for early childhood education in Victoria, focusing on children birth to eight years.

Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

The children have settled back into kindergarten routines with confidence following the holidays, continuing to explore both indoor and outdoor environments with enthusiasm. They are particularly enjoying challenging themselves on the obstacle course. Through small group play, children are building confidence as they express their preferences and communicate their needs with both educators and peers.

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

In Term 2, children are continuing to build on their developing social skills, with four-year-old groups engaging more confidently in cooperative play, sharing ideas, and navigating group dynamics. Three-year-old children are strengthening their ability to play alongside peers, showing increasing confidence while developing early skills in sharing and turn-taking.

There is a strong and growing focus on sustainable practices and caring for the environment. Children are demonstrating respect for their surroundings by looking after kindergarten resources and participating in everyday sustainable routines, both indoors and outdoors. Their curiosity about the natural world continues to deepen, with ongoing interest in local wildlife. Children have been exploring ways to support and protect animals, learning about their roles and the importance of caring for living things within our environment.

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

There is a strong focus on building independence, with children confidently bringing in their own bags, unpacking their belongings, and following the morning routine. They are increasingly taking responsibility for caring for their personal items and the kindergarten environment. Educators support this by encouraging children to attempt tasks independently, fostering problem-solving skills and providing guidance through clear visual and verbal steps when needed.

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

Our STEM focus this fortnight has been continuing on measurement, with children exploring how to compare objects using concepts such as longer/shorter and bigger/smaller. Through hands-on open ended experiences, they are building early numeracy skills and problem-solving

Children have also been exploring patterns in the natural environment. Children have been identifying, recognising, and creating their patterns through loose parts.

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

Children are demonstrating continued growth in their language development, supported through repetition, modelling, and the use of visual cues to strengthen understanding and communication. Within the kindergarten environment, they are increasingly engaging with a variety of language-rich experiences, including music, songs, stories, and everyday conversations. These opportunities are supporting children to confidently express their ideas, expand their vocabulary, and engage more meaningfully with both peers and educators. They are also becoming more confident in expressing their needs and wants with both peers and teachers.
