Linda Buckeridge: Principal

What a start to the term! On Friday we had a beautiful and moving student led ceremony in assembly for a whole school ANZAC Service. Most years we acknowledge the day with a student leader led service over the loud speaker. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to come together and mark the significance of this occasion as a whole community. Thank you to all families that also attended.
This week we had our first round of Family Teacher Conversations for the year. It is always a great opportunity to catch up with both class teachers and specialist teachers on your child's progress. These conversations also complemented the new ongoing reporting approach that commenced this year. We look forward to connecting with families again in this format, late Term 3.
A reminder that on Tuesday 19th May. students are not required at school due to a Curriculum Day.
Staff will be onsite involved in a variety of meetings and learning opportunities related to assessment and reporting.
TeamKids will be available as always.
Unfortunately we are seeing and receiving many reports about car drivers conducting very dangerous moves, putting children at risk of possible injury or worse. I ask you to please consider your actions whilst driving around the school, especially in the busy times of drop off and pick up. Protecting children is the utmost priority - let's all work together to ensure our students can attend, and depart from school safely.
School Council are currently undertaking a review of the Uniform Dress Code Policy. We have looked at introducing a new jacket for students and also details such as hair colour, jewellery, socks and so forth. I invite any member of the community to send an email to hillsmeade.ps@education.vic.gov.au to provide any suggestions or feedback, prior to our next meeting on Tuesday 12th May.
We warmly welcome members of our community to once again attend our whole school Breakfast Club on Friday 8th May from 8.15am. There will be lots of delicious treats on offer and a chance for students to have their special people visit the school and have some brekky together. We look forward to seeing you then!
Prep 2027 enrolments applications have begun! As per last newsletter, I encourage our community to reach out to anyone they know that may be ready for their child to start prep in 2027 and sign up to come on a tour and/or get their enrolment paperwork underway. All enrolments are now done online. If anyone needs any assistance in this space, please do not hesitate to reach out to the ELC staff or primary school administration team to assist you.
All Prep 2027 enrolment applications are due Friday 31st July.
Prep 2027 Transition sessions will occur in Term 4.
I just wanted to let the community know that during this term both myself and Mr Hill will be taking Long Service Leave at different times.
Firstly, Mr Hill will be on leave from Monday 11th May, returning Wednesday 27th May.
Following this I will be on leave from Monday 1st June returning Monday 22nd June.
Mr Hardev Singh will be Acting Assistant Principal during this entire time, as Mr Hill will step into Acting Principal whilst I am on leave.
I want to give a special shoutout to two students from Year 3 who recently assisted a member of the wider community. Unfortunately some other children were making negative choices and our students Diana and Alina stepped in to assist. They provided translation in both English and Dari, helping for the vandalism to cease and for parents to be informed. I am so proud of Diana and Alina for showing our values of Kindness, Respect and Resilience, not only in school grounds but also beyond. A hot chip celebration was definitely on order after these wonderful actions!
