Years 3 to 6 House Athletics

Students in Years 3 to 6 came dressed in their house colours ready to have fun competing for house points at the House Athletics on Monday 19 May held at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood East.

They participated in several individual events throughout the day, which included long jump, triple jump, shot put, hurdles, sprints, discus, high jump and relays. The children moved around the events in their age group teams.

The Essex Heights spirit came alive when the children were cheering loudly for their teammates during the events. They were supporting other age groups while they were waiting for their turn, especially when students were running in the 100m and 200m sprints.

It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves and supporting their house.

Thanks to all the staff who helped throughout the day with marshalling, measuring and timing the activities. Special thanks to Mrs Cotterell and Mr Perini for presenting the top four placegetters with their ribbons, and Miss Kemp for assisting with the co-ordination of the day.

A massive thank you to the following parent volunteers for assisting with the events too:  John Colley, Pia Ahmet, Kat Pryde, Edwina McCarthy, Sa Feng, Chloe Que, Andrè Bonfrer, Michele Chan, Divya Kikkeri, Kelly Lukies, Peter Lukies, Shaurya Bhattarai, Ben Whyatt, Alfredo Baltazar, Henry Chung Yan, Ting Zhang, Minyi Li, Mark Fulton, Daniela Rende, Steve Charter, Karen Ma, Zhengxu Chen and Richard Bradley.

Your support was greatly appreciated.

It was a terrific day!

Division Cross Country

20 children qualified to represent Essex Heights at the Monash Waverley Division Cross Country event at Mirrabooka Reserve in Blackburn South last Wednesday, 28 May. They should all be extremely proud of their achievements in rainy and cold conditions.

Thank you to all the families for their support.

Congratulations to Josh C, Jayan C, Mavi A, Nick N, Caleb F, Milly A, Emmeline R, Amiya S, Grace C, Isabella L, Illary S, Marcus O, Kenan J, Emily S, Alia A, Reece X, Travis M, Ryan C, Karas G, Nicholas D, for trying their hardest and showing great support for our team.

Good luck to Josh, Jayan, Mavi, Milly, Marcus, Grace and Emily who placed in the top 12, which qualified them to participate in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Cross Country on Thursday 12 June at Yarra Glen Racecourse.

On the 28th of May, I competed at the Division Cross Country. The event was held at Mirrabooka Reserve and consisted of the top 16 from multiple Districts all racing each other at Division. I competed in the 11yr boys which was 3km long. There was a total of 7 Districts there and to progress to the Eastern Region, you would have to come top 12 in your race.

When my race was about to start, I was excited but nervous at the same time. I tried my very hardest and pushed to the very end of the race, so in the end, I came 9th which meant I was going to the Eastern Region. I was proud of myself, as at District, I actually came tenth but then I trained hard for three weeks and then in the end, I did better at Division than District.

I would like to thank Ms Hocking and Ms Kemp, for always supporting us when we were racing. I would also like to congratulate all of the students who competed at Division and good luck to all of the students who are competing at Region.

Marcus – Year 6

I participated in Division Cross Country, in the under twelve girls’ group last Wednesday. I ran 3 kilometres against girls from other schools, as well as my friend Emmeline. It was a tough challenge because it was cold and raining, but I continued to push myself forward. Regardless I enjoyed the challenge and was able to get a placing of 12th, making me qualify in the upcoming Region Cross Country event. I am very excited to go to my first Regionals to represent Essex Heights.

I would like to say a big thank you to Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for their support. And also, a thank you to my mum and sister for coming to support and cheer me on.
