Year 2

Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead Excursion
Year 2 students visited Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead in Wandin North in the Yarra Valley on Wednesday 21 May (2G & 2H) and Monday 26 May (2BC & 2F).
The Mont De Lancey excursion was a fantastic opportunity for the students to immerse themselves in our Integrated theme ‘Life in the Past’. The students got dressed up and participated in a variety of hands-on, engaging activities that allowed them to experience what life was like in the past. Some reflections from our students are:
Sage - It was AMAZING! I was really happy because on the Easter holidays I went to a similar place. I went to Sovereign Hill gold mining and I actually got to the gold mine and I found some gold. Mont De Lancey was super fun because I basically got that experience again and I didn’t think I would get that experience again in my life. In the end I loved that we got to do all the activities, but school, P.E and craft was my favourite because it was so exciting.
Amy - I felt really excited at the first bit, but when we had P.E and Art that was my favourite part. When we did the art we got to make these little things with lavender in it and it smelled SOOOO good. It was a great excursion and everybody was having a great time, especially the teachers!
Frankie - I think that it was really good and I really liked the bell part, even though I didn’t get to ring it and I think that the church part was really important for a few people. The house was really interesting because there was a well. I think it was really surprising that I couldn’t find an out-house. I really liked the blacksmith and he made our teacher a piece of metal. When we went to the place where they made the wood, the person showed us how to make a spinning top and he also gave it to our teacher.
Myra - I loved the excursion SO much because we got to go to the school and we got to race on billy carts at the end of the excursion. It was so fun because we got to go to a church, a blacksmith, and an olden day house, but there were no toilets or kitchen! My question was “where were the toilets?” I felt it was AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! The teachers especially had fun. It was so so fun.
Amy, Myra, Sage and Frankie - First, we think the teachers especially had fun. Secondly, a special shout out to the teachers, thank you SOOOO much! We love you, you’re the best teachers. We feel grateful for the teachers and the people who brought us there. We really wanted to go and we’re really lucky because some people might not get to go. There was too much rabbit poo. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Ethan - My favourite part was going on the billy carts and experiencing the school. It was quite funny at school. In real life it wouldn’t be really strict, but with people acting it’s kind of funny because we know it’s not real. I actually noticed that a lot of things were old because that place was actually owned by two people about 120 years ago. The billy carts were made there, the kids actually made them and that’s what my grandparents' life was like. They had a tough life in those days.
Alice - I liked Mont De Lancey because it has lots of different old stuff so you could see what old stuff looks like. I saw the Windmill tower. My favourite part was probably the school classroom and the games. I liked going to the picnic spot to eat lunch with all the tyres and the crafting bit.
Penelope - My favourite part was the school in the afternoon. I liked in the morning how the blacksmith and the person who made stuff with wood. I thought it was really really old.
Josh - I liked the wood spinning and I liked the blacksmith.
Will L - The wood shop breaks wood from the tree and makes it into wooden things.
Lizzy - My favourite part was doing the craft.
Peyton - My favourite bit was the school.
Arianna - I liked the blacksmith and the spinning top.
Ollie - It was fun. My favourite part was using the billy carts.
Harry and Isaiah - We liked the go-carts.
