Foundation
Term 3, Week 10
Can you believe another term has come and gone so quickly! And what an incredible Term 3 we have had!
We celebrated 100 Days of School, Science Day, Book Fun Day, Maths Footy Day and dove into a land of dress ups for our twisted Fairytale Fiasco, the list goes on and on!
We have been immersed in our Fairytale unit and seen some wonderful creative designs of work in STEM. Our students have been solving different Fairy tale problems in our STEM sessions, planning and creating their designs.
Who wouldn’t want to design, create and test a watercraft suitable to carry the Gingerbread Man to safety from the sneaky Dingo? Lots of fun was had by everyone, even our special grown ups joined in on the fun!
Literacy
Our focus in Reading has been interpreting various Fairytale mentor texts with an Australian twist. Our students have continued to develop decoding strategies and fluency. We have been using sticky notes to track our thinking whilst we read. Tracking our thinking is an important part of comprehension as we: find the important part of the text, make connections, ask questions, visualise and identify new vocabulary.
Our Foundies are now following the full Writing Process, from brainstorming their ideas to drafting, revising, editing and finally publishing their writing for an audience. Each week our students choose a writing seed and decide on which genre of writing they would like to publish. All students from Foundation to Year 6 follow The Writer’s Workshop model at BPS. Our students have been working so hard on publishing detailed writing pieces. Stay tuned for a special writer's gift under your Christmas trees at the end of Term 4!!
Numeracy
This term in Mathematics we have taught many different concepts including Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Efficient Counting, Shape and Pattern.
Over the holidays you may like to look for opportunities to discuss mathematical concepts you see in the environment, such as reading numbers, skip counting, looking at shapes in our environment and discussing sides and corners, cooking is also a great way to practise concepts in Maths too!
