Music & Choir
Term 3 was productive term in the Music Room. Thank you to Mrs Winada for teaching my classes while I took some leave to holiday in Europe. I had an amazing time in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Donostia / San Sebastián and Barcelona. A highlight was attending an intimate concert in one of Paris's oldest churches, filled with the music of Mozart and Vivaldi (amongst other great composers). The acoustics of the string quartet and opera singer were absolutely brilliant...... there were happy tears!

Students from Grades 2 to 5 are invited to this information sessions about the 2027 Band Program. There will be demonstrations and a chance for students to try the instruments!
Foundation and Grade 6

Thank you to all BPS students who shared their musical talents this term. Performing to one's peers can be a daunting experience and I appreciate and congratulate all participants and the respectful behaviour shown by audience members. Well done everyone!

Grades 3 and 4 - MSO performance of 'Carnival of the Animals'
Friday 28th August
What a wonderful day at the Melbourne Arts Precinct!
We began with a guided tour of the National Gallery of Victoria then a performance of Saint-Saens 'Carnival of the Animals' by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The students were impressed by Hamer Hall and MSO's performance of the music they had been studying during our weekly lessons. Even the rain at the end of the day didn't dampen our spirits!
Busking for Change - Minyan Ngabangka
This term BPS supported the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) by raising funds with the Great Book Swap. 'Busking for Change' is another project under the ILF.
All proceeds from the Book Swap go towards supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Here's some of the important work that the ILF do:

Friday 11th September
BPS performed the song 'Minyan Ngabangka' at assembly. It was beautiful hearing that many voices singing altogether! Community sing-alongs really are the best! Thank you for your efforts BPS! 💕
Choir
Huge thanks to Mr Merlino and Mr Ringin for stepping in and continuing Choir rehearsals while I was on leave. It was important to keep everyone singing as we continue working on our performance items for the 'Evening of Music' in Term 4!
The Choir was invited to sing the Acknowledgment of Country ‘We Honour the Land’ at the INPIRE Teacher Conference held at BPS on 4th September. The Grade 4 choristers sang beautifully and confidently, showing great teamwork and independence while the Grade 5 and 6 choristers were away at interschool sport. Congratulations!
The Arts in Our Community
There are so many wonderful events accessible to us in our community, but sometimes we don't know about them unless we (or someone we know) are involved in them!
Below is a range of musical events suitable for families with children of various ages. Attending orchestral concerts, theatre or dance productions with family and friends is a really special experience. I used to take my own kids to events like these starting from a very young age. We still talk about the time we played instruments with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and when we saw the MSO playing the score of Harry Potter while we watched the movie on a gigantic screen. Precious memories in the Shacklock household!
Annie Jr. - Perfect show for families!
Scout (34T) is performing the role of Molly in all three shows (two evening performances and one matinee). This is a junior show which is only 1.5 hrs long and the cast is made up of 8-18yr olds. Come along to support community theatre, Scout and other local talent!

Strains of the Heart - an A Cappella Musical
Some of you may know I sing in a local chorus called Vocal Infusion. We are a mixed Barbershop chorus who rehearse monthly and perform at contests and events thoughout the year.
Featuring beloved songs performed by the Melbournaires Harmony Chorus, Vocal Infusion, A Cappella Fellas, Chordite, and quartets Boardwalk, Go Fish! and Crystal Sound, this moving and family-friendly production explores love in all its forms: romantic love, parental devotion, friendship, sacrifice and forgiveness.
