YARRA DIVISION TRACK & FIELD
Thursday 31 August
The pounding of my heart takes over my head, as my ears listen out for the bang. “On your marks” I step up to the line “Get set” Stance *BANG* It was over in a matter of seconds, I had just won the 100m sprint. My breath was lost, legs like jelly but I couldn’t stop smiling. This feeling is one of the best you can experience, and so many other students on Athletics Day felt this. Shot put, discuss, javelin, long jump, high jump, triple jump, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m and relay.
The day started off with a very hyped bus ride to Yarra Hills Secondary College in Mt Evelyn. When we arrived we all piled into schools and Mr Neumann went through with how the day would run. The rivalry between us and Monbulk grew as we were swapping between 1st and 2nd overall throughout the whole day.
Events....Whilst all the events were already assigned to people, on the odd occasion we got put in a new event just to fill up spots; which luckily came with a few points towards Lilydale High.
Although we came 2nd (with Monbulk coming 1st) we all still had a great day, and whilst we hadn’t lost in 15 years the happiness and enjoyment was still there.
Athletics Day is one of my favourite days throughout the year, but my favourite part was when the anticipation rose as we turned into the Macca’s parking lot. We had great persuasive skills, that's for sure.
