Student Enrichment Excursion

Sydney Writers' Festival 2026

On Tuesday May 26, a group of students across years 7-11 attended the Sydney Writers’ Festival Student Day at Sydney Town Hall. This enrichment opportunity provided students with the chance to engage with Young Adult novelists who shared their insights on the writing process.

During the morning session, Crime Fiction author Amy Doak explored the history of the Crime genre and discussed the elements she integrates into her novels to bring her narratives to life. English author Josh Silver presented an engaging discussion on Speculative Fiction and the processes he uses to blend his knowledge of music and psychology to explore the impacts of AI and evolving technologies. Australian author Alexandra Moody discussed the YA Romance genre and the publishing process involved in developing her internationally acclaimed ‘Darling’ series. The afternoon session featured presentations from Indigenous author Jasmine McGaughey and award-winning Tristan Bancks. Students participated in an audience to author Q&A session, gaining valuable insights into each author's writing process.

Overall, the Sydney Writers’ Festival Student Day invited students to consider new perspectives, encouraging them in their own creative pursuits.
