Principal's Message

Mr Stephen Mahoney

Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of the College,

As we head into the final weeks of the term, St Aloysius students continue to be highly engaged in their learning, achieve success on the sporting field, and actively participate in our vibrant faith life. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check out our Facebook and Instagram pages. They beautifully highlight our students and College events, the current building project and truly reflect our community's passion for high expectations, personal best, and making a positive difference.

Academic Reports & Student Success

I have recently completed reading the Year 11 and Year 12 student reports and am about to begin reviewing Year 7 , 8 and 9.

I want to warmly congratulate our senior students on their strong work ethic and high academic standards. It is incredibly encouraging to see so many students receiving a rating of ‘consistently’ for effort across all of their subjects.

Fostering a positive student-teacher relationship during these formative years at the College is fundamentally important to achieving success, regardless of a student's chosen pathway.

Years 7, 8 and 9 Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews

As we approach the end of the term, we are looking forward to welcoming our Year 7, 8, and 9 families onsite for our upcoming Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews on Thursday, 2 July from 1.00pm - 6.00pm and Friday, 3 July from 9.00am - 2.00pm.

While Semester One reports will be distributed on Monday, 29 June at 3.00pm, these interviews provide a timely and invaluable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, work ethic, and engagement in real-time. It is the perfect moment to celebrate their successes from the first half of the year and collaborate on specific goals heading into Semester Two. Booking portal on Compass will be open at 9.00am on Monday, 22 June.

Why Booking with every Subject Teacher Matters

While it is common to focus primarily on core subjects, I strongly encourage parents to make bookings with all of your child’s subject teachers, including elective and practical subjects.

Every subject in Years 7–9 plays a critical role in developing your child's critical thinking, organizational skills, and holistic growth. Speaking with each teacher ensures:

  • A complete, 360-degree view of your child's academic progress and classroom effort.
  • The opportunity to uncover hidden strengths or interests in creative, technical, or practical fields.
  • Consistent goal-setting across all areas of their schooling before the new semester begins.

Student Attendance is Expected

Please remember that these are three-way conversations. Students are required to attend the interviews with you, wearing their full College uniform. Hearing feedback directly and participating in the conversation helps students take real ownership of their learning journey.

Attendance and Punctuality

While we celebrate the fact that many students have maintained a near-perfect attendance rate this semester, it is a timely moment to address a couple of areas for growth:

  • Punctuality: A reminder that arriving at school on time is crucial for a settled start to the learning day.
  • Attendance Targets: A small number of students are currently falling below our acceptable attendance rate of 95%. We ask for parental support in ensuring consistent attendance moving forward.

Building Project Update

(As detailed on Facebook and Instagram)

EXCITING BUILDING UPDATE: THE ST ALOYSIUS OF TOMORROW IS UNDERWAY!

We are thrilled to share that the first official steps of our campus transformation will begin, paving the way for our landmark new three-storey building!

To keep our student services, classrooms, and administration fully operational throughout the build, the project will roll out in carefully planned phases:

Phase 1: Preserving our Spiritual Heart - College Chapel/Temporary staffroom (Saturday, 20 June)

A major priority in our masterplan is the relocation of our College Chapel. On Saturday, 20 June the Chapel will be moved to its new permanent home on the Top Oval. This elevated position will provide a serene, central space for prayer and reflection overlooking our vibrant campus.

A temporary staff demountable will be brought onto the site also on Saturday, 20 June. This allows us to transition our staff out of the current building ahead of its eventual demolition.

Phase 2: Preparing the Learning Centre & College Office/Street works on Cross Road.(End of Term 2/July Holidays/Term 3)

Before we can demolish older structures, we are relocating our administration and our Learning Centre/Library:

- Temporary Library/Learning Centre: Rooms 31, 32, and 33 will be completely refurbished at the end of this current term to house our temporary Learning Centre/Library.

- The New College Office: Once the temporary Learning Centre/Library is complete, our current Library will be transformed into our permanent new College Office on Cross Road, with fit-outs scheduled for Terms 3 and 4.

- Extensive works will be conducted to expand our College Car Park - including a specific zone for drop off and pick ups off Cross Road, increased parking spaces. Widening of Cross Road directly between our main College gates. Instillation of a pedestrian crossing directly outside of the College on Cross Road (another pedestrian crossing will be constructed on Burraneer Bay Road). Improvements will also occur at the student entry points to the College and to the new office building on Cross Road.

Phase 3: The New Three-Storey Building

To ensure absolutely zero disruption to our day-to-day student services, work on the new three-storey building will officially commence after the College Office has moved into its new permanent home on Cross Road. Demolition of the existing Administration block is planned for the Christmas school holiday period.

We are incredibly excited to see these vital infrastructure projects come to life!

Thank you to our entire community for your support and patience as we build an even brighter future for the students of St Aloysius College.

Tell Them From Survey

I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank the 58 parents/carers who completed the ‘Tell Them From Survey’. Your feedback is very important to us and we will be looking at these responses carefully throughout term 3, together with students and teachers responses to continue to improve areas across the College.

Final Message

Finally, I would like to wish all of our parents, students, and staff a safe, restful, and deeply rewarding winter break.

It has been an incredible semester, and the holidays offer a well-deserved opportunity for our young people to unplug, spend time with loved ones, and return fully re-charged for the challenges and exciting opportunities of Term 3.

For those looking for some holiday entertainment, I am sure many in our community will be closely following the FIFA World Cup! A huge congratulations to the Socceroos, who got their campaign off to an absolute flyer earlier this week with a brilliant 2–0 victory over Turkey in Vancouver. It is a fantastic reminder to our students of what can be achieved through teamwork, belief, and competing to the absolute best of your ability on the world stage.

Whether you are watching the football or just enjoying a slower pace of life, I hope our families enjoy a relaxing winter break.

God bless &

as always ‘Up Up Cronulla' / Socceroos
