Alumni Spotlight - Sharon Ridley

From Lumen Christi College to a Career in Clinical Psychology
Introducing Sharon
Sharon graduated from Lumen Christi College in 2001 and has since built a deeply rewarding career as a Clinical Psychologist. Her journey has taken her across continents, through years of study, and into roles supporting individuals and elite athletes alike, all while balancing family life and community service.
A Journey of Learning and Growth
After graduation, Sharon took a gap year to work and travel, spending time with extended family in Ireland. It was a chance to unwind after twelve years of schooling and gain perspective before university. She then embarked on six years of study at the University of Western Australia, completing a Bachelor of Arts, Honours year, and a Master of Clinical Psychology—all while waitressing and tutoring to support herself.
Sharon has now worked for 17 years in clinical psychology, with roles in the WA Health Department, the WA Institute of Sport, and private practice. She supports adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, and relationship challenges. She also supervises graduate psychologists and presents lectures to schools and sporting clubs.
Career Highlights
Sharon treasures handwritten notes from clients expressing gratitude for her support during difficult times. She’s also had the privilege of working with high-performing Australian athletes across a range of sports—offering a unique window into elite competition and mental resilience.
Fond Memories of Lumen
Sharon fondly remembers Mr Cartoni’s English class, Mrs Renton’s Japanese lessons, and Mr Gilbert’s Economics sessions. Camps, retreats, and enduring friendships remain highlights of her school years.
Words of Wisdom
“Your ATAR results will not determine the rest of your life. Try your best but do not fret—you don’t have to have your whole future mapped out in Year 12. It’s okay to have no idea what you’re doing, just have a go at a few different things and learn about yourself.”
From gap-year adventures to guiding others through life’s challenges, Sharon’s journey reflects compassion, perseverance, and a lasting connection to the Lumen Christi community.
