Vinnies Youth Corner

On Monday, 15 September Mrs Gaffney’s Year 7 Religious Education class was involved in packing hygiene packs for the homeless. Together with our link to the Kelmscott Conference, Lumen Christi College offers support to the St Vincent de Paul Society headquarters. Hannah Taylor, the Youth Engagement Coordinator reached out to our Vinnies Youth for support in packing 100 Hygiene bags for the homeless. The bags included small hygiene items such as toothbrushes, hand sanitisers, mini shampoo and wet wipes to name just a few of the items. Hannah then spoke to our students about how much this small act will impact the recipients of these bags. She also shared that within 30 minutes of the bags returning to the headquarters, they would be distributed ready to be handed to those in need.

It has been amazing to see how many students are supporting our Vinnies Community Kitchen. I would like to thank Mrs Nguyen and her family for donating bacon for our cooks and the staff that also turn up to assist each cook.

Community Kitchens will continue next term. They will be held on the ‘even’ weeks, after school from 3:15pm until 4:30pm on the following dates:

  • Week 2 – 22 October
  • Week 4 – 5 November
  • Week 6 – 19 November
  • Week 8 – 3 December

Everyone is welcome to come along and help with any of the Vinnies events.  Remember to watch the notices and newsletters for the Term’s events. Email Janine.creighton@cewa.edu.au for more information.
