9-12 Community News

As we have moved towards the end of another busy term, the students and staff of the 9-12 Community have continued to throw themselves into the life of the school and their communities. 

We ask for the support of our parents/guardians to encourage your students to turn up to TA sessions each day on time.  TA starts at 8.50am each morning and is an important time to start with prayer and deliver notices to students as well as the opportunity for our TA teachers to follow up with students and provide pastoral care and support. We will have a ‘blitz’ over the last few weeks of term to support and encourage students to ensure they arrive promptly to all lessons. We are also running a little competition, which will result in prizes being drawn for swirl vouchers and cinema tickets, which will be a great way to kick off the school holidays. 

In Week 7, the College gathered for our St Augustine’s Feast Day Mass. It was a lovely celebration, and at the conclusion of the Mass, students were able to have a cupcake.  A big thank you to all the families and staff who volunteered to bake the cupcakes.  We had the opportunity to hear from our 2027 prospective College Captains. All five students spoke incredibly well.  Congratulations to Shylee D, Olivia M, Cyril C, Wil H and Luke M on delivering their speeches in front of the entire College community - not an easy feat in itself.  No matter the result, you should all be very proud of yourselves and we know that the student leadership of the College is in great hands moving forward.  We are also fortunate to have had an additional twelve Year 11 students nominate themselves for other leadership positions in 2027, which is a credit to the students’ willingness to serve the school and the wider community. 

We enjoyed a very successful sporting day at the 5-12 Athletics on Friday 14th August. It was great to see so many students competing and supporting their College House and friends.  Our Year 12 students were well represented and all attended dressed in costumes to represent their house.  Congratulations to Brigidine House who took out this year’s trophy after many years of valiant placings on athletics day. 

Yesterday, the College recognised the important men in the lives of students at our Beaut Blokes Breakfast and Liturgy, which saw plenty of dads, uncles, grandads and mates gather with students and staff for a chat, a kick of the footy and an egg and bacon sandwich. This was a great way to start the day, which coincided with the celebration of Footy Colours Day.  

As we move towards the final weeks of Term 3, there are still many events to look forward to. Families of our Year 12 students have received a save the date for the Year 12 Graduation Mass and Dinner to be held on Thursday 19th November and will receive a letter over the next week that outlines final dates for classes and events for our Year 12 students. 

Years 11 and 12 students are reaching theend of their Unit 3/4 studies and will be gearing up for their final assessments and exam preparations. In the coming days, staff will be preparing revision guides, study sessions and advice for students to follow over the final weeks of their Unit 3/4 studies. 

The Units 3 & 4 VCE/VET exam period will be between Tuesday 27th October – Wednesday 18th November. Students have received their exam timetable and Exam Navigator. All our exams are held at the Anglican Church Hall on the corner of Unwin Street and Unitt Street. We expect students to be at the exam centre at least 15 minutes prior to their exam. The Exam Navigator details examination rules and acceptable materials that can be brought into the exam. Please ensure that these documents are read carefully.

VCE VM Warramunda visit 

Throughout the term, our Year 11 VCE VM students have been visiting the Warramunda Aged Care facility in Kyabram, once per week.  Students have been making a great impression at the centre and have been engaging with the residents, running activities and joining in with activities.  Students have run a trivia quiz which they designed and conducted with the residents.  This week, the students ran a competition involving Putt Putt golf and joined in with chair exercises in the morning.  Students have also donated gifts that can be given to the residents on Father’s Day this Sunday.  Our students will continue visiting Warramunda for the duration of this term and the start of Term 4.  Our time at Warramunda will culminate in students creating a legacy project that can be left with the residents at Warramunda.  Projects are just at the initial planning stage but students are looking at creating a conversation bench seat, crocheting and art classes, card games with large size cards and instruction cards of how to play and a Tik Tok movie, to name a few of the possible projects. 

To finish off the term, we are looking forward to the fourth annual Staff and Student Caritas Courage Cup football match. In the lead up to the day, there will be a rigorous draft and team selection process, followed by guernsey presentations. If last year’s game is anything to go by, the crowd can look forward to being entertained by an exciting blend of skill, sportsmanship, mateship and fun. If you're free at lunchtime on the last day of term, please come down to the Kyabram Recreation Reserve to help cheer on the teams.
