Foundation
It has been a busy few weeks in Foundation. Everyone has enjoyed our Kindergarten friends popping in to school to visit our classrooms and take part in some maths games or reading with us.
We continue to work hard on our reading and writing during Literacy, with a big focus at the moment on recognising our tricky words and writing with our letters sitting in the correct line spaces on our page.
In Numeracy we are becoming experts at ‘hefting’ to decide which item is heavier or lighter when comparing mass. We can also identify which container will hold the greater capacity and order objects from longest to shortest.
In Science we are calling ourselves movement masters, as we identify which objects will roll or slide and what features or changes will impact how an item moves.
During RE, students are exploring a unit titled ‘Lets celebrate Creation’. After taking part in a God’s Creation Walk, students identified various items around our school created by God and drew their favourite back in the classroom. They also enjoyed touching, feeling, describing and identifying different parts of creation in small groups. Students rotated around stations to discuss gumnuts, feathers, leaves, flowers, bark and soil to name just a few, of God’s creations in our school environment.
Our Foundation students enjoyed celebrating Book Week by dressing up, writing and drawing about their dress up costumes and sharing books together. We chose a short-listed book titled The Frogs First Song to read and discuss. The sunshine was the perfect place for us to enjoy some water colour painting with our friends to paint frogs from the story.
We thank families for their ongoing support in the learning of their children and look forward to sharing some more of our learning throughout the term with family and friends at our end of term assembly in a few weeks’ time.
Year 1
Last week, the Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting science incursion with Twisted Science from Echuca. The students participated in an experiment called ‘Mix and Match’, where they had the opportunity to mix different substances together and observe the fascinating chemical reactions that occurred. It was a hands-on and engaging experience that the students thoroughly enjoyed and got to wear goggles like real scientists!
Year 2
In Religious Education, our Year 2 students have been learning about the importance of caring for God’s creation. Students have explored the beauty and wonder of nature through nature walks, thoughtful discussions and hands-on activities. They have reflected on how we can show care and respect for the world around us and considered the small actions we can take each day to protect and nurture our environment. It has been wonderful to see students developing a deeper appreciation for the natural world and recognising that we all have a responsibility to care for creation.
