Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing. Psalm 100:2
After a term that featured two productions, it was wonderful to conclude Term 3 with our Senior Gala Concert and acknowledge the amazing contribution that our Year 12 musicians have made to the College.
We give thanks for Daniel B (12.7), Eshan C (12.8), Lucy D (12.7), Rebecah DSK (12.10), Tasman F (12.8), Xin Ran H (12.8), Alannah M (12.10), Jett S (12.7), Gabriella S (12.7), Abtin TB (12.10), Ruby W (12.10) and Roman Y (12.10).
The Senior Gala Concert was a celebration of music with all the Senior Ensembles excelling in their presentations. Sinfonia and the Senior Concert Band once again gave powerful performances, displaying a variety of musical styles. Our auditioned String Ensembles continue to go from strength to strength, with the auditioned Sforzando (woodwind) and Forte (brass) entertaining the audience with their talent. The Senior Stage Band were popular with the audience, and Alannah M was featured as a vocal soloist.
Our Senior and Middle Years Vocal Ensembles continue to perform to a high standard, with both girls and boys of the Senior Vocal Ensemble presenting an additional song each to highlight their voices and personalities. The Senior Choir concluded the evening with songs of nostalgia, dedication and pure fun!
We also welcomed back the OCC Alumni Orchestra who performed.
VCE Unit 4 Drama and Music
We have commenced Term 4 with two highly entertaining VCE performances from our Drama and Music classes. The Year 12 Drama Solo Performances presented by Alannah M (12.10), Anna Y (11.13), Jett S (12.7) and Lucy D (12.7) engaged the audience with carefully crafted pieces that were witty, thought-provoking and creative, clearly projecting their performance focus, using their chosen style, element and convention.
Three nights later, the VCE Unit 4 Music students highlighted skill and musical interpretation in a variety of styles through their performances. Each student also had to present an ensemble piece as part of their program. Jeremiah L (11.13) started the evening with his guitar recital, performing a breadth of styles and joining Mr McCormick on drums for his ensemble piece. Daniel B (12.7), accompanied by Mr Clarke, performed on the trumpet, featuring everything from Mozart to jazz. Abtin TB (12.10), also presented his program on guitar, featuring a highly technical skill set and combining with Mr Van Pinxterin on double bass, as well as some other highly skilled musicians. Alannah M (12.10) concluded a wonderful evening of music, highlighting her ability to interpret a variety of songs with the appropriate style and nuance. Caleb P (10.4) and Jessica S (8.7) joined her for an ensemble piece which entertained the audience and brought the evening to a fitting finale. We wish all four students the very best and Godspeed as they head into their examinations.
Festival of the Arts
As if the week wasn’t busy enough, the Festival of the Arts was an amazing community event that highlighted the theme of Flourish, combining the Visual Arts, Music and Drama. The Art displays, curated by Mr Niemandt (Secondary) and Mrs Kelly (Junior), highlighted the breadth and depth of the College’s Art program and the creativity of the students.

Soiree Evening
Last week commenced with our third Soiree Evening for the year, featuring woodwind, brass, piano, vocal and shoulder strings students. There was an enormous variety in the programme and the audience was certainly captivated by the performances, with many having examinations on their instrument in the coming weeks.
The Cherub Choir also participated in Junior Chapel, and especially drew people into a song about boarding the Gospel Train. All aboard!
This week, we had our fourth and final Soiree Evening for the year, so the music keeps ringing!
