Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

This week, our class attended Mass with the Bethany community. Students demonstrated reverence and respect throughout the celebration by listening attentively, participating thoughtfully, and showing appropriate behaviour in the sacred space.

The Gospel reading was A Living God (Mark 12:18–27). Through this Scripture, students learnt that God is the God of the living and that His love and care for people continue always. We reflected on the importance of trusting in God and living as followers of Jesus each day.

Thank you for your continued support.

Learning for Year 4

Religious Education:

In Religious Education, students will explore what makes an effective action poster and share their opinions about different designs. They will then create their own poster, promoting positive actions that reflect Gospel values and help build a caring community.

English:

Next week in English, students will plan and write a body paragraph for a factual recount, focusing on the correct structure and text features. They will continue reading Uncle Xbox to develop their comprehension skills and practise using because, but, and so to create more detailed sentences.

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, students will learn to identify and describe the properties of three-dimensional objects. They will explore a range of 3D shapes and practise identifying and counting their faces, edges and vertices.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Geography, students are learning to compare different vegetation environments and investigate how these environments support people, animals and plants. They will explore the similarities and differences between environments, identify environmental challenges, and examine strategies used to protect natural habitats. Students will present their findings using evidence and visuals to communicate their understanding clearly and effectively.

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will learn that pointing is not considered rude in Deaf culture.  Instead, it is an importantlanguage feature commonly used to represent pronouns and prepositions.  We can use pointing to refer to people and objects in the room, in the same way that we can say ‘this’, ‘that’, ‘he’ instead of the name of the object.  Students will know they are successful in their learning when they can combine pointing and signing to make a request.

Social & Emotional Learning:

In Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore how people are similar to and different from one another. They will learn to recognise emotions of varying intensity, use appropriate vocabulary to describe their feelings, and develop positive strategies for coping with challenges and stress.

Important Reminders

  • Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.

A friendly reminder that students should arrive at school on time each day. Arriving before the bell allows children to settle into the classroom, organise their belongings, and begin the day’s learning with their peers. Even a few minutes late can mean missing important instructions and learning opportunities. Thank you for your support in helping your child arrive at school ready for a positive start to the day.

Enjoy your weekend,

The Jericho Team
