Spotlight on Learning

Galilee Community

Dear Families,

It has been another fantastic week in Foundation! Our students have continued to show wonderful perseverance and enthusiasm for learning, tackling new challenges with confidence and determination. We are proud of the way they consistently demonstrate respect towards their peers and teachers while making safe, responsible and thoughtful choices throughout the school day. It has been lovely to see their confidence, independence and positive attitudes continue to grow.

Our students had a wonderful time participating in the Planks Incursion! Through imaginative play and creative problem solving, students worked together to transform simple wooden planks into exciting creations and adventures. The experience encouraged curiosity, teamwork and innovation while providing opportunities for students to demonstrate our school values. It was fantastic to see students showing respect, responsibility and kindness as they collaborated, shared ideas and celebrated each other's creativity.

Learning for the Week Ahead

Religious Education:

Next week in Religious Education, students will be learning about the importance of sharing and caring for others. Through stories, discussions and activities, they will explore how sharing food can help people feel included, supported and valued. Students will also learn to be thankful for the food and the natural world that God has provided, and discuss ways they can care for creation in their everyday lives.

English:

Next week we will be reading 'Napangardi's Bush Tucker Walk’ by Lyndall Stavenow. This book is a story about a young girl named Napangardi who goes on a walk with her family to collect bush tucker, which is food gathered from nature. Along the way, readers learn about different traditional Aboriginal foods and the importance of caring for the land. The story celebrates Aboriginal culture, family connections, and respect for Country through simple language and engaging illustrations.

During explicit phonics instructions, we will focus on the /w/ sound.

We introduce sounds based on the Little Learners Love Literacy book 'Milo's Birthday Surprise'.

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, students will continue developing their number sense through subitising. They will practise recognising small quantities without counting and learn to identify parts within numbers to 5 and 10. These activities help students build confidence with numbers and develop a strong foundation for future mathematical learning.

Through discussions and learning activities, students will develop an appreciation for the diversity of cultures, traditions and foods found around the world.
