Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Families,

This week, our Year 5 students proudly led the Mass, taking responsibility for the readings and helping to guide the celebration with confidence and reverence. Students demonstrated respect and attentiveness throughout Mass, reflecting the importance of coming together in faith as a school community.
The Gospel reading, A Living God (Mark 12:18–27), reminded us that God is always present in our lives and calls us to place our trust in Him. Through this Scripture, students reflected on how they can live as followers of Jesus through their words, actions and relationships with others.
A sincere thank you to the families who attended the Mass. Your presence and support helped make the celebration a meaningful occasion for our students and school community.
Religious Education:
Next week in Religious Education, students will review their learning about the Holy Spirit and explore how the Holy Spirit guided important people such as Mary, the disciples and St Francis of Assisi. They will revisit the story of Pentecost, discuss its importance for Christians, and examine how the Fruits of the Spirit help people live with peace, kindness and reconciliation. Students will also work collaboratively to create a presentation that shares their understanding of the Holy Spirit with others.
English:
In English, students will continue developing their handwriting and typing skills while building their understanding of grammar, reading and writing. They will learn to identify and create compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions, respond to questions about our class text, and strengthen their reading fluency and vocabulary. In writing, students will plan and write a resolution paragraph for a narrative non-fiction text
Mathematics:
Next week in Mathematics, students will learn to read, write and rename decimals with up to three decimal places. Using decimats and other visual models, they will explore thousandths and develop their understanding of place value by representing and describing decimals in different ways.
Integrated Curriculum:
Next week in Geography, students will consolidate their learning about the Asia-Pacific region by exploring the interconnections between Australia and neighbouring countries. They will investigate how people, goods, services and ideas are shared across the region and reflect on the ways these connections influence our lives
Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will learn how pointing can be used in sign language to show pronouns and prepositions. They will practise recognising and using these features to communicate more clearly and develop their understanding of how meaning is conveyed in Auslan.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week in Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore productive and unproductive coping strategies and learn how healthy choices can help them manage challenges. They will identify positive ways to cope with difficult situations and practise applying effective coping strategies to support their wellbeing in everyday life.
