Dear Families,
Happy Week 7!
It was wonderful to welcome our students back after the long weekend.
We finished the week by celebrating the end of National Reconciliation Week with a Pyjama Day. Thank you to all families for your support. Funds raised will be donated to the Opening the Doors Foundation, which supports Indigenous learners.

Please note that our Community Mass, originally scheduled for next Wednesday, has been moved to Wednesday 17th June.

A reminder that Monday, 8 June, is a public holiday and the school will be closed.
Looking ahead, Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place in Week 10. Bookings are open in PAM now.
We wish all our families a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
The Year 1 team.
Religious Education: Next week in Religion, we will continue our learning about the story of Creation, focusing on what God created on Days 6 and 7, and finishing of our connection to Creation by exploring our connection to Creation and what we need to grow.

Writing: We will continue to read "Whats Cooking at 10 Garden Street?" exploring the world through different types of food. We will discuss what similarities and differences occur between different types of recipes and families that live together in the story.
Reading: Next week we will learn digraphs ou and ow make the /ou/ sound. Words that end in the /ou/ sound end with ow. Both ou and ow are used in the middle of words. Before n and l it is usually ow. Before nd it is ou.

Mathematics: Next week in mathematics we will finish our learning on subtraction and move onto learning about measurement focusing on time. A further focus will be reading time to the hour and talking about events that are long or short.
Integrated Curriculum: Next week, students will explore Indigenous Australian foods, with a focus on native plants and bush foods used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for thousands of years.
Auslan: We are learning useful signs to use at school.
Social & Emotional Learning: Next week, students will continue developing their understanding of positive coping strategies and explore ways to recognise, express and manage difficult emotions.

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.
• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.
• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.
• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”
• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that made you laugh?

Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Can we please ask for a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Jerusalem Team
