Clubs Update:

In Art Club, which runs on Tuesdays during lunch, the students have engaged in a range of exciting activities including decorating pots, and creating original RUOK Day artwork, which are displayed in the Well-being Area.

We have introduced a new club this term, Russian club, led by Ms Nichiporova. This is a space to learn about Russian art, food, culture and language.

There are a number of other clubs that run regularly. Students are welcome to come every week, or just to drop in, to either Breakfast Club, Book Club and Gardening Club.

Finally, a reminder that Homework Club runs most weeks after school on a Monday and Wednesday. All students are welcome to join and get some help with their homework and enjoy a snack.

Athletics Regional:

A number of our students were successful in going to the Regional Athletics Competition. We had competitors in a range of running races, including 100m, 200m, 400m, and 1500m. We also had a number of field competitors in long jump, high jump, shot put and discus. It was a really windy day, which made the events quite challenging, but everyone gave it their best.

Congratulations to Exayvion, who has made it through to State for shot put, and well done to all competitors for a great effort on the day.

Basketball:

The students had a fun day at the Year 8 Interschool Basketball competition. The competition was held at Diamond Valley Sports and Fitness Centre.

Both teams played 4 games, with the girls competing back-to-back which was pretty challenging. The boys last game was a win, and it was awesome to be able to cheer for their success. All teams played really well and were very resilient.

A total of 4 teams went out on the day, 2 girls and 2 boys teams. Each of the teams played against different schools. All of the teams had a mixture of wins and losses on the day. Our teams played really well and tried to show good sportsmanship and support to the opposing team, even when we were defeated!

Table Tennis:

The table tennis team have been training throughout term 2, and in the first week of term 3 went out to compete.

After a briefing on the rules, we had some practice time prior to matches. We won all matches in singles and doubles for the first round. However, in our subsequent rounds, we were less successful. In the end, we placed third as a team, and also had a really fun day.

Escape Room:

Students had the opportunity to nominate to attend the Quantum Victoria Escape Rooms. This was related to our study of Maths and Technology. We started the day with a briefing about the day. Our school was taken to our first Escape Room - Sneaky Cyphers. We needed to crack codes to discover the combination to advance to the second riddle. Many teams were able to successfully escape.

Password Panic was our next challenge, in which we learned key measurements and how locksmiths create keys. This was the most challenging, and only one or two teams made it to the end. The final escape room was Fishy Phishing, where we were taught about how some people impersonate others online, and about scam emails and messages. We enjoyed this one the most, as our team escaped first.

Ocean Scratch:

Ocean Scratch Incursion was a coding workshop that students could opt into. A combination of Year 8 and Year 7 students worked on zoom with a presenter who talked us through what the program was about.

After the general presentation, we used instructional modules to code our own game related to the ocean. We used a pre-made structure, and personalised certain elements such as the sound. We were focussed on exploring the underwater ocean food chains.

School Review:

The school was reviewed in a number of ways this term, starting with an SWPBS review. Daniel came out to talk to a random selection of students, and asked questions about our school values, and our reward systems, and how our teachers teach us our positive behaviours. The school received a 93% fidelity score, which is a VERY good score.

We also undertook a whole school review, including a student panel. The reviewers asked the student group for feedback about our overall experience, our favourite subjects, and what we enjoyed the most about school. They also asked how we struggled in each subject, and what was difficult for us. We also were asked what we would change about the school if we had the power to do so.
