Performing Arts Update – Term 1 Highlights!
What a vibrant and rhythm fuelled few weeks it has been in Performing Arts! Our students across all year levels have been diving into music-making, creative movement, group composition and even a bit of musical detective work. Here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening in the PA room lately…
Bucket Drumming Bonanza!
The Performing Arts room has been thundering (in the best way!) with the sound of bucket drums as students explore rhythm, tempo and ensemble skills. Using right–left sticking patterns, accents, rests and even tempo changes, students have been building short group routines that require precision, teamwork and lots of focus. Their confidence keeping a steady beat has grown so quickly—and the pride on their faces when the whole group locks into the groove is priceless.
Body Percussion Creators in Action
From claps and snaps to stomps and chest taps, students have been learning how to turn their bodies into musical instruments. They’ve created their own 8–16 count compositions, experimented with dynamics (soft vs loud), incorporated movement levels, and even worked on layering two rhythmic parts at once. These creative tasks encourage problem-solving, leadership, and collaborative performance skills—and the students are absolutely embracing the challenge!
Can You Name That Tune?
One of the students’ favourite activities this term has been our musical guessing game, Can You Name That Tune? Each session features a mix of songs spanning multiple eras—from iconic classics to modern hits. Students race to identify:
Song Title
Artist
Genre
Time Signature
Decade of Release
It’s energetic, competitive, and full of “Ohhh I KNOW this one!” moments. Beyond the fun, it builds students’ listening skills, music history awareness, and confidence discussing musical elements.
Celebrating Creativity and Confidence
Across all year levels, students have been working together with enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to give new things a go. Whether drumming in sync, composing original rhythmic patterns, or decoding mystery music tracks, each class has brought joy, humour and creativity to the Performing Arts space.
We can’t wait to share more of their developing skills throughout the term—stay tuned for more musical adventures ahead!
