Our House Swimming Carnival on 26 February was a fantastic day of participation and team spirit Congratulations goes to McDonald House on their well-deserved win. Reserve House was leading for a while there, but McDonald House kept up the pressure which brought them their victory.

Twenty-nine of our students qualified for District Swimming Carnival on 3 March. We are incredibly proud of our team’s efforts - we placed 5th overall, just one point behind Beaumaris Primary School.

It was a wonderfully tight competition and a great example of our student's demonstrating determination, sportsmanship and pride in representing our school.

Teaching & Learning – Building Strong Foundations

The core curriculum we are delivering includes regular “checking for understanding” throughout each unit of work. Teachers gather progress data at structured points in time, allowing them to carefully analyse how students are tracking so they can respond in real time. This ensures teaching is targeted, responsive and aligned to student needs.

At the beginning of each learning unit, students are in what we call the acquisition phase — the stage where they are first learning and practising new knowledge and skills. During this phase, repetition is essential. Research tells us that some forgetting is actually a normal and important part of retaining information in our long-term memory.

By revisiting and repeating key facts and concepts, we strengthen students’ ability to recall information weeks and even months later. This deliberate repetition helps move knowledge into long-term memory, giving students a strong foundation to build on as learning becomes more complex in future years.

Prep Update

Our Prep students are now attending school full time, and it has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and independence. Many are now proudly carrying their own bags and walking into the Prep area independently each morning. This positive step allows teachers to begin their phonics sessions promptly and sets a strong tone for learning each day. We are so proud of how well our youngest learners are settling in.

Lockdown Practice

We would like to inform you that on Monday 16 March, our school will be conducting a Lockdown practice as part of our regular safety procedures.

These practice drills are an important part of ensuring that our students and staff are well prepared and know exactly what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. Pease be assured that this is a precautionary measure designed to keep everyone safe.

We encourage you to have a brief conversation with your child prior to the practice to reassure them that this is simply a safety exercise to help keep them safe at school.

Our teachers will also be speaking with their classes beforehand to explain the process in an age-appropriate and reassuring manner.

This Friday, 6 March at assembly, we will play the lockdown/shelter in place siren so students can hear the sound in a calm and controlled environment and understand what it means.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and secure learning environment for all students.
