We are truly in the endgame now. The Year sixes are currently impatiently waiting for Thursday’s Farewell which looks like it will be taking place in the scorching heat. Over the last week as part of the countdown to graduation the year sixes have been busy practising their graduation dance. Hayley and Josie who despite being 6 months pregnant have choreographed a fantastic dance (shout out to students Lucy B and Elizabeth W that the students have been quick to pick up and we are looking forward to performing it at graduation and the end of school assembly. 

Surprise Party for Sonia

Last Friday we had our last year 6 assembly or though it was not really an assembly but a surprise tribute and celebration of Sonia, who has been with us every step of the way from our first day in Prep in 2019 to the last day this Friday when we leave NMPS for the final time. It was quite an effort to keep this secret especially in 6C where a secret passcode ‘Water Buffalo’ had to be used to make sure Sonia had no idea what was going on. 

On Friday afternoon the assembly started as it always does, with the introduction, welcome to country and then some reminders with Sonia interpreting away none the wiser. School captain Lachlan finally let the cat out of the bag telling everyone that this is not a year 6 assembly but a celebration and tribute to Sonia. The shock on Sonia’s face was priceless and a joy to behold. Many students across the year 6 cohort shared their memories of their time with Sonia. Eloise M gave a poignant and moving speech on Sonia's impact on her learning throughout the years.         

Change of Venue for Year 6 Farewell: PLEASE READ!

Due to predicted high temperatures on the day, and with student and family safety and wellbeing as our priority, we have made the decision to adjust the venue and format of the celebration. 

Please see the updated details below:

Location: Molesworth Gym: 25 Molesworth St, North Melbourne VIC 3051

Time: 5:00 pm – approximately 6:00 pm

Performances: There will be no student performances

Food: Students will now have their farewell meal during lunchtime at school

Picnic: There will be no family picnic as part of the event

As the celebration will be held in the gym, families are welcome to bring a picnic blanket for comfort. Please note that chairs are not permitted in the gym.

Certificates will be presented to students by the classroom teacher, with time allocated for families to take photos.
