What is Lunar New Year, Tet and Seollal?
These festivals are all celebrated in countries in Asia and use the Lunar Calendar.
They celebrate the New year and the start of Spring. There are many similarities in how they are celebrated but also some differences. The similarities include the worshiping of ancestors, giving money to children, visiting family and friends and big parades and celebrations.
Lunar New Year - 新年快乐 / 新年快樂 Lunar New Year is celebrated in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Seollal - 새해 복 많이 받으세요 (saehae bok mani badeuseyo) Seollal is celebrated in Korea. It is the year of the Blue Dragon.
Tet - Chúc mừng Năm Mới! Tết is celebrated in Vietnam. Tet is short for Tết Nguyên Đán which means ‘Festival of the First Morning of the First Day.'
