Principal's Report
Mr Jim Hill
Dear Parents and Friends of DPS,
The school year has started very well. Students have settled quickly and routines are well established. We welcomed some new staff to DPS this year and feedback so far is that they’re very happy to be here and the clarity around our processes has been acknowledged a number of times, which makes it easier to come into a new school.
Over the first four weeks we are running an induction program for our new staff so they will learn about our protocols, procedures, and expectations.
Our open classes on Thursday February 18th were well attended and provided an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s new teacher and see the classroom in which they will spend 2024.
During the holidays we had new carpet laid in the L6 building, part of the junior building painted including external doors, the L6 roof was repaired (it had a leak). We still have more work to be completed including some paving repairs and new pavers laid at the rear entrance by the gym. I am also seeking quotes to replace the decking outside the L6 building as it is beginning to show serious signs of aging!
Our staff spend a lot of time developing the curriculum, organising a range of events and activities to support and challenge our students. We also spend a lot of time maintaining our buildings and grounds of which we are very proud.
As parents and friends of DPS I encourage you to consider being involved in the daily life of the school. There are no binding rosters. We want you to be as involved as you wish to be as there are many ways to be involved. Parents can help out in classrooms, the Library or as part of our parents group who organise a range of activities throughout the year.
If you would like to be involved in a more formal capacity we will be inviting nominations for School Council at the Annual General Meeting in the March. School council overseas Policy, Procedure and Protocols as well as the Financial management of the school.

Our Grade 3 and 5 students will participate in the NAPLAN testing this term on the following dates. Please remind your child that they don't need to stress about NAPLAN. We want them to do well and we are confident they will do so. Our message will be to read the questions carefully, take their time and try to focus. If they do this, they will do their best which is what we want.
