Yr 8 Visual Art

Year 8 Art students have been exploring the rich history of Australian modernist art through the works of John Olsen, Margaret Preston, Fred Williams, Clarice A’Beckett and Sidney Nolan.
Students began the unit by experimenting with chromatic colour mixing, no black paint allowed, learning how artists create the unique tones and hues found in the Australian landscape. They then selected a famous Australian painting, divided it in half, and carefully recreated the missing section by hand.
The project challenged students to closely observe fine brushwork, composition, and colour accuracy while developing their own painting skills. The results were impressive, with students producing thoughtful and highly detailed artworks that paid tribute to some of Australia’s most celebrated artists.
The completed pieces demonstrated not only growing confidence and technical skill, but also a growing appreciation for Australia’s artistic and cultural heritage. True masterpieces from a talented group of young artists.
